DR in Action

Yesterday was the Election Day in Israel, one of the major political parties in Israel is hosting their main server in one of our Data centers; the server provides real time information about voters, activists and much more and availability is crucial especially on Election Day.

When we designed the solution one of the questions raised was availability not just from hardware failure in one of the components but also in the case of entire site failure, the question was easy to answer and we established DR Site and BC policy with 3 hours replication interval.

The server was hosted in “Smile 012” data center, Smile experiences a major networking problem since midnight to around 04:30 AM and again at 08:00 AM, at that point we decided to move the activity into another Data center and apply the DR/BC policy.

We counted 20 Minutes since we started the DR procedures and perform all necessary actions until the server was back online.

Due the nature of the problem in Smile and that we have no control on the work we decided to run the Server from the DR site until the Elections day ends.
