2nd ANGLO FOOTBALL LEAGUE,
Host: Anglo United Trust Fund. Organizer: Hyperlink Sports.
Kick-off: The host team (Anglo’s united) took on the new faces to the Tournament, ‘Purple Haze’, host team dressed up in their Anglo United Jerseys which they had previously used to participate in the Sri Lankan tour they embarked upon the previous summer, and the latter was dawning their bright Purple Jerseys, as they’re teams name had implied.
The Chief Guest: Mr. Donald Ross, stepped onto the field accompanied by Anglo United Founder-Trustee, Creswell Weightman and Hyperlink Sports Founder, Sean Pereira. They shook the hands of the eager players, gathered them around, said a small prayer, and gave the referee the game ball to kick off the proceedings.
The Tournament: It had promised to be a great day, as all 15 of the participating teams started to take the field one by one to prove their metal on a platform where showcasing their talents would be supported far beyond the tournament . Towards the latter half of the day, the teams began to narrow down, to the top 8 teams, and from the Quarter Finals, to the top 4 teams of the tournament.
The First Semi-Finals: Played by ‘Real Madness’ and ‘All Stars’, was an enthralling match that seen both teams head for the half time break at deadlock. The second half seen a lot more action as both teams looked determined to finish the game without going into the penalties, with 5 minutes to go, Philip of All Stars finally broke the deadlock and scored a stunner of a goal passed the Real Madness Goalkeeper Marshal, and with a minute to go All Stars captain, Travis then went on to seal the game with a tap in on the brink of full time, thus ending the game at 2-0 to the winners and the first team to enter the finals the ‘All Stars’.
The Second Semi-Finals: Played by ‘Hitmen’ and ‘La Masia’, was another exciting game that went dead even passed the full time whistle, both teams played with a lot of heart through-out the game and left everything on the field. A penalty shootout was needed to decide the winners. With both teams geared up to go head to head, you could cut the tension and anxiety with a knife, ‘La Masia’s’ best player Kevin stepped up to take the first shot and scored, as did the captain of ‘Hitmen’ (Kenten), a save then by the ‘Hitmen’ Goalkeeper (Calvin), allowed Hitmen’s player of the tournament (Tony) to seal the deal and hand them a 3-2 victory.
The Finals: Kicked off at 6pm, with both teams stepping onto the field with a grit and determination to lift the trophy that had eluded them the previous year in the first installment of the ‘Anglo Football League’. Another hard fought 0-0 draw had unfolded in front of the audience of enthusiasts, with numerous chances, fantastic plays, counter-attacks and rock solid defense to showcase the incredible talent that participated in the tournament. At the Penalties it was the ‘All Stars’ captain Travis that came a whisker away from taking it to sudden death, as he shot narrowly wide of the goal, thus the ‘Hitmen’ lifted the cup, and the second time proved a charm, as they had a sublime tournament and deservedly won the cup.
