The Berhampur Railway Station will soon have a foot over bridge connecting all the four platforms.

A decision to start the work of the foot over bridge soon was taken at the Railway Station consultative committee meeting on Wednesday.

Lingaraj Nanda, Divisional Commercial Manager, East Coast Railway, Khordha Division informed that tenders have been called for the foot over bridge and work will start soon.

The committee members have also proposed to make a deep bore well between Berhampur and Golanthara Railway stations to provide better water facilities and to give an unused room at the station entrance to Reserve Police Force for better security.

Chief Commercial Manager of East Coast Railway, Khordha Division, Station Manager and other committee members were also present at the meeting.

As many as 15 families from Landabali village (Raikia Tehsil) of Kandhamala district reached Revenue Divisional Commissioner’s office in Berhampur on Wednesday and submitted memorandum asking for 'Patta' of the lands where they have been cultivating crops for the last 30 years.

Pertinently, these people were recently given notices to leave those lands by the admin which compelled them to request the RDC for the 'pattas' or 'document of ownership' of their lands. The development happened following the rehabilitation of people of Dhepaguda village after a landslide in their area.

A villager Sabitri Sethy asked, “I have been cultivating vegetables on that land since 30 years and that is the only source of income for me. I have applied for the Patta so many times, but couldn’t get it. Now the admin wants to rehabilitate the Dhepaguda villagers on our agricultural lands saying that it a Government land. Where shall we go as that is the only source of income for me and the other families of Landabali?”

The villagers are anticipating a chaos in the hamlet due to the prevailing situations. So the villagers have complained the matter to the RDC with the help of Akhil Bharat Kishan Mazdur Sabha.
