India has achieved a solar power capacity of 72.02 GW, comprising 55.71 GW from ground-mounted, 11.08 GW from rooftop, 2.55 GW from hybrid projects, and 2.68 GW from off-grid solar, with notable growth since 2019-20 in Gujarat, Karnataka, and Rajasthan. Private sector investments, chosen through transparent bidding, have been driving installations, with the northeastern states receiving additional support. The fiscal year 2023-24 allocates Rs 5,917.25 crore for solar energy, focusing on Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects. As of October 31, 2023, 50 solar parks with 37,490 MW sanctioned capacity have been approved, with 10,237 MW commissioned across 18 parks.

The United States of America has formally requested information from the World Trade Organization's Committee on Import Licensing regarding India's recent import restrictions on laptops, tablets, and computers. They seek clarification on the reasoning behind these restrictions, potential extension to other products, criteria for issuing import licenses, and notification timelines. India introduced these restrictions in August to boost local manufacturing and reduce reliance on Chinese imports but deferred the implementation to November 1 due to opposition from the electronics industry. Following negotiations, India launched an online "authorization system" on October 19, granting automatic approvals based on import details. The import authorizations are valid until September 2024, and 110 firms, including major U.S. players, have received them.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) currently has no plans to amend regulations related to banks' unsecured lending portfolios, despite the notable increase in unsecured loans, including personal loans and credit cards, within the Indian banking sector. This issue, which has garnered the RBI's attention, is largely limited to a few specific banks and is not considered systemic. The RBI has cautioned these banks about their unsecured loans and strengthened monitoring, but increasing risk weights on unsecured lending is not deemed necessary at this point. Analysts have also expressed caution about the risks associated with unsecured retail loans, particularly small personal loans.

The Indian government intends to bid out road projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore through the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model by March 2024. This shift from the engineering, procurement, and contract (EPC) model aims to promote the construction of high-quality roads by private players responsible for maintaining them for 15 years. The focus on BOT encourages public-private partnerships in road construction, with the government set to award ₹2 lakh crore worth of projects under this model. The government's commitment to green initiatives, including electric highways and alternative materials in road construction, is also emphasized.

Under the National Education Policy 2020, the Ministry of Education intends to establish a unique identification number for all students, spanning from pre-primary to higher education. Referred to as 'APAAR' – the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, this identity will serve as a digital repository that records personal information, academic achievements, exam results, and co-curricular accomplishments, including specialized skill training.

A centralized academic document registry will be introduced to securely record and access academic data, which will reduce document misplacement, enhancing academic history, authenticity and simplifying processes for students seeking higher education and jobs. It offers insights for performance monitoring and adapting teaching methods to cater to students' needs, thus, ultimately improving efficiency.

On October 13, 2023, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change launched the Green Credit Rules, 2023, which will promote environmentally beneficial activities through a market-based incentive system. It is part of the 'LiFE' movement and focuses on creating tradable Green Credits by meeting specific environmental criteria. The program will cover sectors like Water Conservation and Afforestation and will operate independently of the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme. Additionally, it will encourage compliance with ecological obligations and motivate individuals and organizations to participate in environmental initiatives.
