Lentils area in Australia decreased by 6.11% from 360 to338 thousand ha in 2020-21.Production is estimated to decrease by 6.89 % from 5.34 to 4.97 lakhMt this year.Moisture stress and lower price during planting season discouraged farmers to limit area under Lentils.Maximum area under Lentils was registered at 418 thousand ha in 2017-18. This year Australian farmers had produced 5.43 lakh Mt.As new crop is coming into the market from Canada and USA too, pressure on price might be seen in global market.

Production | Pulses

Kharif pulses sowing has entered in the last phase now. Indian farmers have covered 137.86 lakh ha so far against 131.76 lakh ha last year as on 11th Sep-2020. It is almost 4.6 % higher than last year and around 107% of normal (128.89 lakh ha) till date. Tur area is up by 6.41 % to 48.11 lakh ha. Urad area too is higher by 1.03 % to 38.27 lakh ha so far against 37.88 lakh ha last year. Normal area is 35.53lakh ha. Indian farmers have showed more interest in moong farming and they have shown 35.66 lakh ha so far against 30.71 lakh ha last year. It is higher by 16.12 % from last year and higher by 16.96 % of normal as on 11th Sep-2020.Kulthi sowing is down by 23 % at 0.33 lakh ha so far .Farmers have covered 15.49 lakh ha area under other pulses against 17.53 lakh ha last year.

Production |Chickpeas | Australia

Chickpeas area in Australia increased by 92.97 % from263 thousand ha to 508 thousand ha in 2020-21.Production is expected to increased by152% from2.81 to 7.08 lakh Mt in 2020-21. Crop condition is good so far.Higher production of chickpeas in Australia may put pressure on global chickpeas market in coming months.Big import player like India is out of the market after harvesting a bumper crop last year.Import duty on chickpeas is applicable at 60% right now.So import possibility is bleak despite improvement in price in domestic market.

Production | Rapseed | EU

Citing favourable weather condition in central and northern Europe. The rapeseed outturn is estimated to be still below previous year’s poor crop harvest of 17.32 million tonnes, pointing out steep fall in British production this year. The production is hit mainly due to the very dry spring in parts of Europe as well widespread damage due to insects. Strategie Grains has estimated EU rapeseed 2020-21 import to record 6.2 million tonnes from 6.1 million tonnes previously. EU had imported 6.0 million tonnes of rapeseed in 2019/20 season.

Export shipments of red lentils from Canada decreased in comparison to the previous month in July, as per the data published by Statistics Canada.Exports reached 174,848 metric tons (MT) during the month, down 14% from the 203,748 MT shipped the previous month. Shipments so far total 1,755,771 MT, versus 1,234,718 in the same period the last marketing year.India remained the main buyer buying95,747 MT in July.turkey brought 30,900 MT.
