The Institute of Eminence at Delhi University explores an architectural expression rooted in materiality and context. Red sandstone forms the primary exterior surface, while the concrete textured grey finishes introduce a contemporary character. Long glazed openings bring natural light into the academic spaces and strengthen visual connection with the campus

The interplay of these colours on the facade gives the building a strong visual presence. Through its material palette, the project demonstrates how institutional architecture can be contemporary in expression while still being grounded in its cultural and contextual setting.

The Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Jodhpur responds to the campus’s desert setting through a design shaped by climate, topography, and context. The complex is designed to promote a comfortable environment for learning while encouraging movement and interaction beyond the classroom.

Defined by a strong symmetrical composition and a low, expansive form, the complex establishes a distinct institutional presence within the campus. A deep projecting roof canopy provides shade while reinforcing the building’s horizontal character, complemented by terracotta-toned jaali panels and vertical slit openings that filter light and respond to the climate. Integrated into the site’s varying levels, the complex incorporates informal gathering spaces and visual connections, extending learning beyond formal academic settings.

The expansion of the Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur introduces six strategic interventions into the existing campus fabric. Rather than functioning as standalone additions, these new buildings integrate academic, research, administrative, and student life environments.

The project responds to evolving institutional needs while respecting established circulation patterns and open spaces, safeguarding the campus character during this next phase of rapid growth.

Bringing our team together for a day of shared learning and conversations around the practice.

At the annual get-together, the STHAPATI team from across India gathered to reflect on experiences from different projects, share site learnings, discuss challenges, and exchange perspectives across disciplines and teams. Through a participatory workshop, the team explored means to work more collectively as a practice. The day concluded with an evening of connection, conversations, and celebration.

The National School of Drama is conceived as a specialised environment for theatre education that responds to the requirements of contemporary learning and performance. As one of India’s first purpose-built institutions dedicated to drama studies, the design brings together spaces for learning, interaction, and creative exploration within a cohesive campus framework.

A defining feature of the project is the incorporation of triple-height light boxes, which introduce natural light deep into the building while enhancing openness and visual connectivity across spaces. Complementing this is a network of flexible learning and performance environments designed to accommodate changing pedagogical needs over time. Together, these interventions create a campus that supports creativity, collaboration, and the continued evolution of theatre education.

The design of UP State University focuses on creating an efficient and cohesive campus layout.

The university’s master plan is strategically divided into two distinct zones: the front zone, which includes the academic and institutional buildings and provides a dedicated space for educational activities. The second zone is the rear Zone, designed for residential purposes. This section houses student dormitories and faculty residences.

Currently unfolding at the site is phase one of construction - the academic library and administrative blocks combined within a U-shaped block.

Design of the Research Hub at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay reflects how digital integration is becoming a key driver of future-ready architecture in India. Technology is embedded within the design process through BIM-led coordination, simulation modelling, and integrated workflows that support precision and multidisciplinary alignment from concept through ex*****on.

Within the project, BIM functions as more than a coordination tool. It enables architectural, structural, and service systems to be studied together, allowing more informed decision-making from the early stages of design. Through iterative digital modelling, internal spaces, circulation networks, and MEP services were evaluated simultaneously to optimise layouts and improve operational efficiency.

These workflows support integration within a highly serviced institutional environment while reducing inefficiencies in on-site ex*****on. By combining technology with spatial planning, the project demonstrates how digital tools can strengthen adaptability and long-term performance within complex academic infrastructure.

Conceived as a new Research hub within one of India’s most established and ecologically sensitive campuses, the intervention supports the evolving needs of innovation, collaboration, and advanced academic inquiry.

The project addresses the demand for additional academic, teaching, and research spaces through vertical densification, thereby strengthening campus capacity without compromising its landscape character. With limited land available for expansion, the design adopts a vertical approach, optimising the site footprint while maintaining open spaces. By balancing institutional growth with environmental sensitivity, the project demonstrates how contemporary campus development can support emerging research ambitions while remaining rooted in its existing context.

The intervention at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is shaped by the campus’s architectural character, circulation networks, and ecological context, ensuring seamless integration with the larger institutional fabric.

As part of this expansion, a specialised facility for drone research has been designed to support emerging technologies, advanced experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The design prioritises accessibility, connectivity, and ease of movement, creating a cohesive campus experience for students. While responding to the scale of a growing institution, the project remains sensitive to its landscape and setting, balancing contemporary requirements with the qualities that define the campus today.
