Dear all,
Advice on cyber crime
1. If you get called about TRAI is going to disconnect your phone, don't answer. This is a scam.
2. If FedEx calls you about a package and asks you to press 1 or something, don't answer. This is a scam.
3. If a police officer calls you and talks to you about your base, don't respond. This is a scam.
4. If they tell you you are in 'digital arrest', don't reply. This is a scam.
5. If they tell you that drugs were found for you or any package you sent, don't respond. This is a scam.
6. If they say you can't tell someone, don't listen to them. Notify Cyber Crime Police on 1930.
7. Don't reply if they contact you via WhatsApp or SMS. This is a scam.
8. If someone calls you and tells you that he has mistakenly sent money to your UPI ID and he just wants his money back, don't reply. This is a scam.
9. If someone says he wants to buy your car or your washing machine or your sofa and says he's from army or CRPF and shows you his ID card, don't reply. This is a scam.
10. If anyone says he's calling from Swiggy or Zomato and needs to confirm his address by pressing 1 or something, don't answer. This is a scam.
11. If they ask you to share OTP to cancel order or ride or whatever, don't respond. This is a scam. Under any situation, don't share your OTP with anyone over the phone.
12. Never answer a call on video mode.
Verify offline.
16. Always check if such letters are from authorized government portal.
In case of digital hygiene, do not share your address, location, phone, Aadhar, PAN, date of birth or any personal details with anyone on phone or messages. Actually, refuse to accept your name on call too. Tell them that since they called you, they should know your name, number and any details they want you to 'confirm'. Even if they have your details, don't confirm or deny or get entangled in any conversation. Just disconnect and block.
In each of these cases, and other similar cases, the process of protecting yourself is simple: cut calls, note numbers and block. Don't press any number during call, don't listen to them. Just cut the call, block the number. Remember, if they're pressuring you, scaring you, or forcing you to take action or respond immediately, it's a scam.
Cyber fraudsters are adopting different ways to trap and cheat you.
One of the practical solutions is not to use your smartphone for any bank related transactions; use old keypad instead. Despite all of the above, if you get trapped; report to local cyber police without hesitation, even if it's equal to compromising your reputation because this is the way to exploit fraudsters.
