About the TEF
The TEF is used to assess French comprehension and expression skills in people who are not native French speakers. It can be used for Quebec Immigration purposes and is the only French language test accepted for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP).

In most cases, TEF is mandatory to prove French language ability in the following cases:

To Immigrate to Canada and become a Canadian citizen
To immigrate to the Canadian province of Quebec
To study in France (TEF for studies in France)
To obtain citizenship in France (TEF for Naturalization)
To certify one’s French language ability for work; and
To enrol in certain programs and study abroad as an international student
The test consists of three written sections: reading comprehension, written expression and vocabulary and sections. The test also consists of two oral sections: listening comprehension and oral expression. Depending on your situation, some sections may be optional. Each section can vary between 15, 40 or 60 minutes.

Finally, the cost of the TEF depends on the location where the test is being given.

The benefits of a Canadian education
Studying in Canada, especially for the purposes of finding work and/or immigrating to the country afterward can be a hugely beneficial move. Not only does a Canadian degree or credential (from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution) carry worthwhile skills and deliver an internationally accredited quality of education (which in turn can help greatly in trying to acquire high-paying work in the Canadian market); but international students in Canada are able to work part-time during their studies (thereby having a means of taking care of themselves). Studying in Canada is also a very strong way to improve one’s Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score; the primary way that federal skilled immigration candidates will be assessed by the Canadian government.

Proof of citizenship eligibility
As mentioned previously, people born outside Canada to at least one parent who was a Canadian citizen prior to their birth are eligible for proof of citizenship, as are naturalized Canadians.

Further to that, the following are some important notes to keep in mind regarding Canadian citizenship certificates:

Canada limits citizenship by descent to the first generation born outside Canada to a Canadian parent (i.e., only the child, not the grandchild or further downwards, of a Canadian-born parent is deemed eligible for Canadian citizenship by descent)
As the child of a Canadian-born parent, you are eligible for proof of citizenship whether your parent is alive or deceased
Ineligibility: Children adopted by a Canadian after they are born will need to first become Canadian citizens before being eligible for a Canadian citizenship certificate.

The future of Express Entry
Express Entry draws, from CRS scores to the number of ITAs, have always been hard to predict. This is expected to continue, as there is no standard procedure for when IRCC must hold a draw or how many candidates will receive an ITA during any particular round of invitations.

With that being said, it is expected that IRCC will begin conducting targeted draws at some point in Q2 of this year. While the exact start point of these draws is to be determined, targeted Express Entry draws will allow IRCC to issue ITAs to immigration candidates based on specific factors such as occupation, educational background, language skills, etc. These draws are expected to help Canada better address specific areas of need in the labour market, allowing all provinces and territories to increase the impact of immigration to this country.

The PGWP cannot be renewed and you can only apply for one PGWP in your lifetime
Although you cannot renew your PGWP, you may be able to extend your PGWP if it was limited in duration by your passport expiration date. The validity period of your PGWP may not go beyond your passport’s validity date. If this is the case, you have to apply for a work permit extension upon the renewal of your passport in order to receive the full validity of your PGWP.

If you decide to return to school after applying for the PGWP, you will not be able to receive a new PGWP for additional programs of study. Further, any period of full-time study while working will not count toward Canadian work experience for Canadian immigration purposes.

Canada’s passport ranks high
Last September, Canada tied for eighth place in the most recent Global Passport Ranking report by Henley & Partners, a global immigration consultancy. Australia, Greece, Malta and the Czech Republic were also ranked eighth.

Passports are ranked based on the number of other countries a citizen may enter without having to get any kind of visa.

According to the report, Canadian passport holders can enter 185 countries without a visa. Japan’s passports were the number one passport in the world as its citizens can enter 193 countries. Singapore and South Korea were tied for second place at 192 countries. Afghanistan had the lowest ranking passport and only has visa-free entry to 27 countries.

LGBTQ+ communities in Canada
Cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal have some of the largest LGBTQ+ communities and are ranked the friendliest cities in Canada.
