We are pleased to welcome Dr. Sonalde Desai, Professor and Centre Director, NCAER–National Data Innovation Centre (NDIC), and Distinguished University Professor Emerita, University of Maryland, as a speaker for our upcoming session, Designing Leave Policies for the Modern Workplace.
As workplaces evolve, conversations around leave policies increasingly require an understanding of the broader social and economic realities that shape people's lives. Questions around caregiving, workforce participation, gender equity, and organisational inclusion are deeply connected to the evidence that informs public policy and institutional decision-making.
Dr. Desai's work has been at the forefront of these conversations. Her research examines India's social and economic transformation, with a particular focus on education, employment, gender, maternal and child health, and survey methodology. As the lead of the India Human Development Survey (IHDS), one of the country's most comprehensive longitudinal household studies, she has contributed significantly to understanding how changing social realities influence individuals, families, and institutions.
A Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and former President of the Population Association of America, Dr. Desai brings decades of research and policy expertise to discussions on inclusive growth and evidence-based decision-making.
In this session, she will offer insights into how organisations can design leave policies that respond to changing workforce needs while supporting equity, participation, and long-term organisational resilience.
