🇮🇳 KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS – 26 JULY 🇮🇳
Operation Vijay is one of the proudest chapters in India's military history. In May 1999, Pakistani soldiers and armed infiltrators occupied strategic mountain peaks on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil sector of Jammu & Kashmir (now in the Union Territory of Ladakh).
The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Vijay to recapture these positions. Despite extremely high altitudes, freezing temperatures, steep cliffs, and heavy enemy fire, Indian soldiers displayed extraordinary courage and determination.
After nearly 60 days of intense fighting, India successfully regained the occupied positions. On 26 July 1999, the victory was officially declared, and since then the day has been observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The war claimed the lives of 527 Indian soldiers, while over 1,300 were wounded. Their supreme sacrifice ensured that the nation's sovereignty remained intact.
Today, we bow our heads in gratitude to every brave soldier who fought with unmatched courage and patriotism.
