Lead the Response 🗣️— Don’t ❌Just Deliver Content…
As a leader when you present — whether to your team, clients, or a broader audience remember your message is only one half of the equation. YOU💫 are the other half.
You must design your content both what you say and how you invite the response.
✅Here are four principles which will enhance your influencing skills while speaking in public :
1. Start with a relevant question whose response will ‘yes’ to get a buy-in
Before diving into details, align attention with shared purpose or urgency. The goal: get your listeners/participants thinking, “Yes, this matters.”
2. DESIGN for the right response, at the right time
Your content should GUIDE the audience to respond in the way YOU NEED — not just absorb info, but act, reflect, or commit. Hence you need to think backwards. ⏪
3. Treat content and your presence EQUALLY as tools of influence
The words carry half the load. Your tone, pacing, posture, and energy carry the rest. Invest equally in both.
4. Step into the SPOTLIGHT
Be comfortable being seen. Public speaking is performance — hiding behind the podium undermines your credibility. This took me time but I see myself more comfortable over the years by being intentional …
Whether you’re announcing change, sharing new procedures, or motivating your team, these principles help you lead🎖️ the room — not just speak.
Which of the above ⬆️ do you practice do share in comments.
