India generates over 7 million tonnes of textile waste every year โ€” from manufacturing scraps to clothes discarded after use. There is also another layer to the story: India receives significant quantities of post-consumer textiles from other countries.

But the challenge isnโ€™t simply the amount of textile waste we generate.
The real challenge begins after the textile is discarded.

Where does it go?
Is it collected responsibly?
Is it sorted by material, quality and potential for reuse?
And can it be channelised to the right recycling or recovery pathway?
This is where Klean Kabad is working to fill a critical gap.

We are building a responsible textile recovery system focused on:
-Responsible collection of post-consumer textiles
-Effective sorting and segregation based on material, quality and reuse potential
-Channelising materials to appropriate reuse, recycling and recovery partners
-Creating greater visibility and traceability across the recovery process

Because recycling doesnโ€™t start at the recycling plant.

It starts with what happens to the material when it is discarded. We are learning, testing and buildingโ€”and we know that no single organisation can solve this alone. If you are working in textile collection, sorting, reuse, recycling, manufacturing or sustainable fashion, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

What gaps are you seeing in the textile recovery ecosystem? What solutions are working on the ground?

Letโ€™s share, learn and build a stronger textile recovery system together.

The old phone you stopped using; the three chargers you donโ€™t remember keeping; the tangled earphones; the dead power bank; the broken mouse; the handful of batteries; and the one mysterious adapter that nobody knows the purpose of.

We have all been there! But when electronics reach the end of their useful life, they should not be disposed of with your regular household waste.

So maybe it is time to clean out that drawer! Keep what you still use. Repair or reuse items that are still usable. Then, responsibly hand over what has reached the end of its life. At Klean Kabad, we help you doing exactly that.

We often think recycling is about putting something in a recycling bin.

But in reality, it is about what happens before and after the bin. Indiaโ€™s Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 now require waste to be segregated at source into four streams: wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special care waste.

For households, that means keeping recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, metal and glass separate from food waste. At the same time, batteries, e-waste, medicines and other special-care items need their own pathways.

Even within dry waste, not every material follows the same recycling journey. Keeping recyclables clean and dry and separating different waste streams gives the recovery process a much better starting point.

Good waste management, then, is all about putting the right material into the right stream and giving it the best chance of being recovered.

Some of the biggest opportunities in recycling are also some of the most complex.

During our recent visit to NEPRA Resource Managementโ€™s plant in Ahmedabad, we got a closer look at the world of LDPE and flexible plasticsโ€”materials that are a significant part of our everyday waste, but often come with challenges when it comes to collection, sorting, quality and recycling.

Our conversations with the NEPRA team went beyond the plant floor. We discussed the evolving market for flexible plastics, the opportunities for better recovery, and how stronger partnerships can help build more efficient and responsible recycling value chains.

For us at Klean Kabad, meaningful visits like this leads to stronger value chains and a more circular future. We look forward to exploring a meaningful collaboration with the nepra.co.in team.

Some of the most valuable lessons in waste management come from people who have spent decades doing the work.

During Klean Kabadโ€™s recent interaction with Kumoda at the Hasiru Dala DWCC in Bengaluru, we had the opportunity to hear about her nearly 30-year journey in the waste management sector. She has built an ecosystem where people are at the core of the operations, recognised and respected for their efficient work.

She has proved that a strong waste management system is not built only with infrastructure. It is built by investing in people. Kudos to Kumoda for the work she continues to do and for supporting the people at the heart of the waste value chain.

Special thanks to Alliance Of Indian WastePickers for introducing us to her. There is so much to learn from practitioners like her as we work towards building more responsible and inclusive waste value chains.

Independence Day gave us a chance to talk about something that affects all of us every day: the way we handle our waste.

This year, we took our message of dry waste segregation to two places in Navi Mumbai:

๐Ÿ“ DY Patil University Navi Mumbai
๐Ÿ“ Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation

At D.Y. Patil University, more than 200 students came forward and took a pledge to practise waste segregation. Seeing so many young people engage with something as simpleโ€”and importantโ€”as separating our waste was genuinely encouraging.

We were also grateful for the encouragement and support from Smt. Sujata Suraj Patil, Hon. Mayor, Navi Mumbai, and Shri. Kailash Shinde, Hon. Municipal Commissioner, NMMC.

For us, a cleaner India is not built through one campaign or one day. It comes from small, everyday actions that we choose to practise consistently.

This is one step in our journey towards building greater awareness around responsible waste management.
