Tree House Community

Tree House Community The Tree House Community, an international team, based in Auroville, India, creates state-of-the-art THC is a global network of treehouses and treehouse people.

we are a dynamic growing team of bioconstructors with specialization in harmonic architecture, treetop construction and sustainable living. Our core team offers complete construction and maintenance services for tree health and treehouses. we also do gardening and landscaping, technical climbing, rigging and suspension work, pruning, furniture and wooden kitchenware and lightweight ecological cons

truction. the treehouses we build range from simple decks and playing rooms in the canopy to fully functional houses, chalets and villas in the branches. treehouses are no longer just for children! through years of research and field-testing we have developed systems to make living off the ground a comfortable alternative for anyone who chooses to have a treehouse. Our construction techniques are with utmost respect to the tree and the surrounding ecology. Living in a treehouse is a gentle symbiosis of man-tree, a continuous exchange of gases and a stong complete growth together. We want to make it possible for more people around the world to make their house off the ground, allowing the earth to continue breathing.

It has been the privilege of a lifetime watching my friends bring this dream of theirs to life. I had the pleasure of guiding the writer of this article, Allison, last year after a summer living alongside the team who made it happen. The summer before that I was able to witness the selection of the tree and partake in a brain storming session where we all drew our perfect treehouse. But I can take no credit for this. I was just a very fortunate fly on the wall during a period of time I'll remember for the rest of my life and I'll forever be grateful for that.

I can't tell you how impressed I was by everyone involved, from those planning and running logistics, often from outside of the country, to those climbing trees and constructing in hot conditions, battling bees and wasps, to those who spent weeks transporting and carrying heavy hardwood planks on their blistering neck. The problem solving, the adapting, the living together, the late rains and subsequent unexpected mud and wet wood, the fungus in the tree, broken toilets, and a ticking clock ... there were so many challenges for the team.

The logistics, the labour, the skills and the perseverance involved blows my mind. Every day watching this monumental construction happen around me was a blessing.

inspire me to dream big and I'm sure this incredible place will inspire many others. Thank you for letting me witness this and thank you for being so kind to me 💚👏🏼🌳

"The goal of this skateboardy platform was to create a space for the people that use the skatepark, and in turn attract them to put more own initiative into building up the skatepark into a funner space. Treehouse #20's building process was fun and interesting on both a social and practical level. The project saw kids from Auroville joining the construction, so we had the opportunity to get creative and share ideas about the treehouses' possibilities with them. It was also intriguing to discover that used skateboard decks make for good shelves and comfortable backrests!", said ranieri.

On India's East Coast in an Auroville community, Quiet Healing Center, stands #19/500 Antonello's Beach Hut later named La Casita. It is an independent tiny house on stilts with a perfect view over the ocean. As there is no road nearby and a little away from Auroville's center, you can enjoy the nice ocean breeze and relaxing sound of the waves and chirping birds.

The hut includes your own private kitchen and attached bathroom. The treehouse-style kitchen allows you to cook your own meals and supplies a refrigerator, stove, cooking basics, dishes and silverware. La Casita is situated right in front of the beach, you can see the sunrise as you're waking up as well as the moon from your bed.

The #18/500 Secret Island Treehouse was built between a Mango tree, Jackfruit tree, Tamarind tree and braced on the opposite side upon 4 Areca-nut palms. Its primary function was as an outdoor office space, but it developed to add an upper floor bedroom space so you may also sleep in the Treehouse.

The local materials available to us for this project on the Andaman Islands were woven bamboo mats, cane which we harvested from the local forest and bent into curvey shapes for the railings, Gurjan and Red Sander timber which was salvaged from a previous construction on the clients land. We also incorporated coconut shells and driftwood as decorative features.
