Big things are on the horizon for India's indirect tax system. 🚨
As announced by PM Modi during his Independence Day address, GST Reform 2.0 is set to launch by Diwali 2025, promising one of the most ambitious overhauls since the introduction of GST in 2017.
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Two Slabs for Simplicity
The new regime proposes just two main GST slabs:
🔹 5% for essentials
🔹 18% for most goods and services
🔸 A new 40% “luxury/sin” slab will target to***co, alcohol, gaming, and high-end items.
✅ Affordability Boost for Consumers
Electronics (TVs, ACs), FMCG, bicycles, and even small cars may become cheaper as they shift from 12% or 28% into lower slabs. A direct boost to household budgets and consumption.
✅ Relief on Insurance Premiums
There’s a strong proposal to exempt or reduce GST on life and health insurance premiums (currently taxed at 18%). This could significantly increase financial security pe*******on in India.
✅ Beyond Rates: Fixing the Friction
GST 2.0 will also target long-standing issues like:
Classification disputes
Inverted duty structures
Procedural inefficiencies
