Dubai, once known as one of the world’s safest investment havens, is now going through a severe crisis. The reputation it built over decades as one of the safest global investment destinations is now under serious pressure.
Last year, more than 10,000 millionaires reportedly moved to Dubai. But today, Dubai is facing an unprecedented crisis. This war has created serious uncertainty around two of Dubai’s biggest revenue sources: tourism and real estate.
Dubai’s rulers are generally known for their ability to foresee challenges. That may be why a one-trillion-dirham, or 1,000-billion-dirham, stimulus package has been announced.
This resilience package announced by the UAE Central Bank is aimed at supporting banks and businesses during this crisis so that they do not collapse under pressure.
At the same time, this is also a major image-building exercise. It is part of Dubai’s attempt to protect its reputation as one of the safest investment and tourist hubs in the world.
But can other GCC countries afford such a large stimulus package like the UAE? That remains uncertain.
One thing is clear: expatriates and Kerala cannot move forward in the old way anymore. There is no doubt that this crisis will deeply affect every expatriate.
And there is also no doubt that Kerala’s economy will feel the impact.
