Your bank balance goes up by ₹1 lakh and suddenly the question comes: ab isko kahan invest karun?

Bonus mila ho, FD mature hui ho, tax refund aaya ho, ya bas kuch extra money save ho gaya ho - most people jump straight to the product. But maybe the first question should be simpler: yeh paisa actually kis kaam ka hai?

Before you invest it, check just 3 things:
1) WHEN: could you need this money in 6 months, 2 years or much later?

2) WHY: is it for an emergency, a planned purchase, retirement, travel, or some other goal?

3) CAN IT WAIT: if markets are down when you need the money, can that goal be postponed?

Because the same ₹1 lakh can mean completely different things depending on what job it has to do. And this is where money gets messy. We may have SIPs running, FDs lying around and cash in the bank… but no clear answer to "yeh wala paisa kis goal ke liye hai?"

That is usually a better place to start than asking which fund or product to choose.

If your mutual fund investments are growing but their purpose is getting blurry, connect with Hexo Wealth. We can help you review and organise them around your requirements and investment horizon, where suitable.

Comment "UPGRADE" before your next upgrade gets reduced to ₹73,817/month. We’ll send you the Hexo Big Purchase Cash Flow Check.

Smartphone financing is expected to account for 42% of sales in India in 2026, up from 35% in 2025. EMI is becoming normal. That does not mean every EMI comfortably fits your life.

Before you tap Buy, check 3 things:
1) ROOM: after the EMI, how much monthly surplus is actually left?

2) TRADE-OFF: which SIP, goal, emergency-fund contribution or lifestyle expense becomes smaller to make room for it?

3) BUFFER: if income is disrupted, can your emergency fund still handle essential expenses plus the EMI?

That is the real affordability test. Because if a big purchase fits only after another priority gets cut, the EMI has not made the purchase cheaper. It has simply moved the cost somewhere else in your life.

And if your cart says "No Cost EMI" but your cash flow quietly says "ek goal thoda postpone kar dete hain" 😄, that is worth checking before payment. Connect with us if you want to review how a large purchase may interact with your ongoing mutual fund goals and investments, where suitable.

India received around US$135.4 billion in inward remittances in FY25.

That is a lot of money coming home. But for an NRI, "paise India bhej diye" is not the end of the decision. It is where the decision begins.

The same money could be for your parents next year, a future home in India, retirement 12 years away, or money you may eventually need abroad.

So before your next India investment, give it 3 labels:
1) THE DEADLINE: when could you need it?
2) THE BORDER: will it stay in India or may it move abroad later?
3) THE JOB: is it for a near-term need, a long-term goal, or simply sitting without a clear purpose?

Only after this should NRE/NRO route, liquidity and the investment itself enter the conversation.

For NRIs, the account route matters too. NRE balances are repatriable, while NRO balances have different remittance conditions.

And if your India money currently looks like 2 bank accounts + 4 mutual fund folios + 1 FD + one master goal called "dekhenge" 😄, that may be the right place to start organising. That is what the Hexo NRI ROOTS Check is built around: understand what the money needs to do first, then organise the mutual fund side around its purpose and investment horizon, where suitable.

If every new India decision makes you wonder "NRE se karun, NRO se, kitne time ke liye rakhu, aur kal abroad chahiye toh?", connect with us:

Comment "LAKSHYA" if your investment app is showing you a return but not answering the question that actually matters: "Am I on track?" We’ll send you the Hexo LAKSHYA Framework.

Because seeing 5% on the screen and understanding what that 5% actually means are two very different things.

The next time you check your SIP or mutual fund portfolio, run the number through these 3 filters:

1) MEASURE: for SIPs, look at XIRR because every instalment has entered the market on a different date. But don’t let a few months of annualised XIRR become your verdict on a long-term investment.

2) MATCH: compare the fund with its relevant benchmark over a comparable period. "Mere friend ke fund ne zyada diya" is not a benchmark. 😄

3) MEANING: finally ask whether the portfolio is still aligned with your goal, time horizon, risk profile and asset allocation. That is where the Hexo LAKSHYA Framework comes in.

Your app can calculate the return. It cannot decide whether that return is taking you closer to your goal.

And if your current portfolio review is mostly: app kholo → number dekho → tension lo → app band karo*, connect with us. We can help you review and organise your mutual fund investments around their purpose and investment horizon, where suitable.

Comment “HEXO MAPS” if your net worth has a number, but your retirement still has a question mark. We’ll send you the tool that helps put the two on the same page.

A high net worth can look reassuring, but retirement depends on how much is actually usable to fund the life you want.

Before counting an asset towards retirement, ask:

1. Can I use it?
Is it tied up in your home or business?

2. Can it pay me?
Can it generate cash flow when active income reduces?

3. What job does it already have?
Is it already committed to another goal?

4. What happens after inflation?
Today’s expenses may look very different in retirement.

Retirement readiness isn’t just about how much you own. It’s about how much can actually support your lifestyle.

Hexo Money Maps brings your income, expenses, investments, assets, and liabilities into one view so you can identify the gaps clearly.

If you’d like to understand how your mutual fund investments fit into your retirement goals and investment horizon, connect with Hexo Wealth.

Retirement is not the day you stop working. It is the day your salary stops being the default answer to every monthly expense. Comment “RETIREMENT” and we’ll send you the Hexo Retirement Calculator to estimate what your post-salary life may actually need.

Because your retirement corpus is not a crore figure you choose first. It is the output of your lifestyle, inflation, income sources and time.

A recent IRIS 5.0 study found that 77% of urban Indians believe ₹1 crore or less would be enough for a peaceful retirement. But ₹1 crore for someone who needs ₹50,000 a month and ₹1 crore for someone who needs ₹1 lakh a month are being asked to do two very different jobs.

A better way to look at retirement is as a monthly income gap:
→ what could your lifestyle cost when your salary stops?
→ which expenses may reduce, and which ones may rise?
→ what income may continue through pension, rent or other sources?
→ and for how many years will your investments need to fund the remaining gap?

That is the number worth calculating.

If your retirement number currently exists as “₹1 crore should be enough na?”, that is exactly the kind of guess the calculator is meant to replace.

And if the calculator gives you a target but your existing mutual fund investments still don’t tell you how you are getting there, connect with Hexo Wealth. We can help you review and organise your mutual fund investments around your retirement goal and investment horizon, where suitable.

Before you call trading your “side income”, read this once 👇🏼

87.7% of individual traders in the equity derivatives (F&O) segment incurred net losses in FY26. Collectively, individual traders recorded net losses of ₹91,685 crore.

So if your thought is, “Job ke saath thoda trading karke extra income ho jayega,” maybe the first question is not “How much money can I make?”

It is: “If this money goes to zero, what changes in my real life?”

So before trading enters your financial life, get the order right:
1) CORE: build the skills that can strengthen your primary income over time.

2) CUSHION: keep your emergency fund, family commitments, SIPs and goal money completely separate from market speculation.

3) CRAFT: understand that trading demands knowledge, process, discipline and risk management. An easy-to-use app does not make the activity easy.

4) CHOICE: then ask the most important question: does trading need to be part of your financial life at all? There are many ways to build long-term wealth without making short-term market calls.

The market offers plenty of ways to participate. You don’t have to participate in all of them to build wealth.

And if your hard-earned money is slowly becoming “bas ek trade ke liye” money, that line is worth fixing. Hexo Wealth can help you review and organise your mutual fund investments around your requirements, risk profile and investment horizon, where suitable.

If you checked your mutual fund portfolio this month and immediately thought: yeh sahi ja raha hai ya kuch change karna chahiye? - then this is for you.

Because seeing the return is easy. Knowing what deserves action and what simply needs patience is the harder part.

So the next time you review your portfolio:
↳ DO: ask whether your investments are still aligned with the goal, time horizon and asset allocation.
↳ DON’T: compare one bad month in equity with an annual FD return.
↳ DO: look at the longer-term journey, your cash flow and whether you can continue investing consistently.
↳ DON’T: stop SIPs, switch funds or change the portfolio only because the last few months look uncomfortable.

Monthly returns tell you what the market did.
A good mutual fund portfolio review should tell you whether you are still on track.

If you keep checking your portfolio but are still unsure what those returns actually mean for your goals, connect with **Hexo Wealth**. We can help you review and organise your mutual fund investments around your requirements and investment horizon, where suitable.

Moving abroad can take one flight. Updating the financial life you leave behind in India usually takes a little more work.

And that is where many NRI money problems actually begin.

If your residential status has changed, think of it as an NRI Money Reset and check these 4 areas:

1) STATUS: Update your resident bank account, KYC/FATCA and residential status across relevant investments.

2) TAX: Understand how your Indian income and investments are treated in India as well as in your current country of residence.

3) ACCESS: Keep one clear record of your investments, nominees and whether the money can be repatriated when you need it.

4) PURPOSE: Recheck why each investment exists, how long you intend to hold it and how easily you may need to access the money later.

Because becoming an NRI should not mean discovering an old compliance or accessibility issue only when you want to invest, redeem or transfer money.

If you have moved abroad but your Indian mutual fund investments and related records still look exactly as they did when you were a resident, connect with us. We can help you review and organise the mutual fund side of your NRI investment setup and servicing requirements, where applicable.
