Should Businesses use Pole Vault or High Jump principles to create new records in Profits ?
The High jump world record has stayed at 2.45m since 1993 whereas the Pole vault record has been broken several times in the same period and an athlete has soared to 6.23m in 2023. Why this phenomena ? What is the takeaway for Businesses from this ?
In High jump only one variable is at play - the jumper himself while in Pole Vault three variables are involved- the jumper ,the Pole and the method . This increases the number of resultant variations and new record is created ,almost every year .
In Business the same philosophy holds good -To maximise profits, more variables are to be put into play . Focusing on one variable namely Sales will plateau the profitability, while adding more variables like Cost Reduction, Constraint Elimination, Inventory Optimization make profits soar to great heights every year.
