ERV stands for Energy Recovery Ventilator. It's a ventilation system used in homes and buildings to improve indoor air quality while saving energy.
Here's how an ERV works:
An ERV brings in fresh outdoor air and expels stale indoor air, but as it does this, it transfers heat and moisture between the incoming and outgoing air streams. This way:
• In winter, it warms and humidifies the cold, dry air coming in.
• In summer, it cools and dehumidifies the hot, humid air before it enters your home.
Benefits of an ERV:
• Improved air quality (removes pollutants, odors, and excess CO₂)
• Energy efficiency (reduces heating/cooling costs)
• Balanced humidity (helps prevent overly dry or moist indoor air)
• Comfort (constant supply of fresh, conditioned air)
ERVs are especially useful in tight, energy-efficient buildings where natural airflow is limited.
