🌍 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗚𝗘𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 – 𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 🌍
As we commemorate Day, we reflect on the growing need for sustainable solutions to support refugees, internally persons ( ), and . According to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Global Trends 2024 report, 122.1 million people are currently displaced worldwide due to conflict, persecution, and violence. This growing crisis calls for urgent action to ensure protection, , and economic opportunities for displaced populations.
At GFA, we are proud to be part of several initiatives aimed at supporting people and communities. Over the last few months, we have won three significant projects focused on refugees, IDPs, and returnees, all commissioned by - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH:
👉🏽 Economic Recovery Project in Faso ( ), 2025-2026: Supporting IDPs and host communities in Burkina Faso’s Centre-North region through entrepreneurship, market access, and training to enhance economic recovery and resilience.
👉🏿 Piloting of Innovative Social Protection Mechanisms in ( ), 2025-2027: Working to improve the economic and social participation of IDPs, returnees, and vulnerable host communities in Northeast Nigeria through social protection mechanisms and gender-transformative approaches.
👉🏾 Employment and Skills for Populations in ( ), 2025-2027: Strengthening programs for refugees, IDPs, and vulnerable host communities in , enhancing employment prospects and skills development.
Additionally, we are proud of our involvement in the project in , also commissioned by GIZ, which focused on the economic inclusion of IDPs and vulnerable host populations. The PESoP project was completed in August 2024, and GFA led the economic inclusion component, focusing on and . Through this project, we worked to improve , foster job creation, and support local economies through targeted coaching and capacity-building efforts. A key moment was the handover of land titles to IDPs, symbolising a step toward ensuring long-term stability and community integration ( 👉🏾 see photo 📸).
These initiatives are a testament to our ongoing commitment to creating sustainable solutions for displaced populations. We remain focused on empowering individuals, building resilience, and ensuring inclusive development for all.
