🍃 Walnut Leaf Gall Mite | Aceria tristriata
Orange to reddish, pimple-like galls on walnut leaves are characteristic of Aceria tristriata (Nalepa). Hard 1–2 mm galls occur mainly along the midrib and major veins; heavy infestations may distort leaves.
🔄 Overwintering females shelter around buds and protected bark sites. In spring, they move to young leaves and feed. The adult mite induces gall formation; eggs are then laid inside the gall and immature stages develop there. As summer advances, egg production declines. From late summer into early autumn, overwintering females leave the galls and return to protected sites around buds for winter.

Aceria tristriata
