Le Filigare

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐮𝐬:

The ancient hamlet Le Filigare once upon a time was called "Fiaccole di Sopra". Here since the 16th Century farmers were growing grapevines; al

ready Mr. Francesco Datini relates that those bright hills were blessed with splendid wine. In 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany, for the first time in history, decided to give boundaries to a production zone for the “real” Chianti wine: Le Filigare Vineyards were within these boundaries. In the summer of 1857 the Arch-Duke of Tuscany met with the Pope Pius IX at Le Filigare because of the beauty of the place and the delicious wine and food.



𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

Le Filigare is on the top of the hill called Le Filigare and close to the village of San Donato in Poggio - just right in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. The vineyards are all on hilly ground, the type that the French call CRU, a perfect place for grapevine growing thanks to the geological composition of the soil (mainly sandstones) to the location (between 400 and 500 metres high where there is no fog nor frost) exposed to the south and sloped enough to assure good drainage. A densely wooded area gives good shelter to the northern wine yards. Constant sunshine and lack of humidity guarantee the perfect ripening of the grapes. Our vineyards cover about 8 heather and produce an average of 40/50,000 bottles each.
