Sometimes the advice you reject today is the opportunity you lose tomorrow.

Yesterday, I witnessed a difficult moment in my work as a Linguistic and Cultural Mediator. A family was informed that they could no longer remain in the social support system after receiving negative decisions on their asylum application and repeatedly refusing to collaborate with the guidance and support offered to them.

This is not about blaming anyone. It is a reminder that cooperation matters.
As immigrants, we must understand that every country has rules. Social workers, educators, and cultural mediators are not your enemies. Their role is to guide, inform, and help you make the best decisions within the law.

You may not always like the advice you receive, but refusing to listen or refusing to cooperate can have serious consequences.
Being humble enough to ask questions, learn the language, follow procedures, and work together with professionals can open doors that pride and resistance may close.
Let's learn to see guidance as support, not as an attack.

The best time to listen is before the consequences arrive.

New Week, New Lesson

This week reminded me that sometimes helping someone also means telling them a difficult truth.

Today, together with a social welfare officer, we helped a Nigerian mother move from one Comunità Mamma Bambino to another. She had accumulated so many belongings that moving became very difficult, especially since she was relocating to a much smaller place.

When I gently encouraged her to listen to the operators and let go of things she no longer needed, she became upset, thinking I wasn't supporting her.

But true support isn't always agreeing with someone. Sometimes, it means helping them make decisions that will make life easier in the long run.

As immigrants, we should learn to trust the professionals who are assigned to help us. They often see challenges we may not notice and offer guidance that can make our journey smoother.

Growth requires not only receiving help but also being willing to accept good advice.

In life, not everything is as it first appears. Patience is a virtue that helps us see clearly before we react. Don't jump to conclusions or make decisions based on emotions alone. Take a moment, gather the facts, and wait. You may discover that what you thought was true wasn't the full story.
Choose wisdom over haste. Sometimes, waiting is the best decision you can make.

On this beautiful Sunday morning, Lord, we thank You for the gift of life. Thank You for loving us and trusting us despite our weaknesses. Teach us to love You more each day and to see others through Your eyes of mercy and compassion.

Grant that, like Peter, through the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the inspiration of God the Father, we may always declare—not only with the words of our mouths but also through our actions—that "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

May our lives reflect our faith, and may we be true witnesses of Your love wherever we go.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 🙏
