Fulcrum wheels

Fulcrum wheels Fulcrum Wheels s.r.l. designs wheels and components for racing bikes and distributes them in over 30 countries worldwide.

The company headquarters are in Vicenza. was established in July 2004, based on the idea of three aerospace engineers who are passionate about bicycles. The strong points of this young company include the use of unique patents, ongoing technological research, and the attractive and young-spirited design. In its first year of operation, Fulcrum Wheels s.r.l. earned revenues of 6 million euros, with

exports accounting for 70%. Fulcrum wheels were initially created for road racing, but in 2008 the Fulcrum family welcomed two important new members: the off-road wheels, which would soon reveal themselves to be worthy of the name, achieving excellent results, and the pedal cranks for racing bikes in carbon fibre, representing the first Fulcrum product for the high-end range of components. uses only ultralight materials such as aluminium, carbon fibre, and polyaramide, while paying careful attention not to diminish the wheel's strength. Fulcrum has developed a number of systems that are unique in the world: 2:1 Two-to-oneT, for doubling the number of spokes in critical points, Dynamic BalanceT, for obtaining a constantly balanced rotation dynamic, MoMagT, which ensures a durable assembly and perfect spoke holding, and A.F.S. (Axial Fixing System) for complete compatibility with all the off-road disc braking systems. Fulcrum has also entered the world of tubeless road wheels, proposing the innovative 2-Way Fit system: an exclusive rim profile that makes it possible to fit either a tubeless tire or a classic clincher on the same wheel. Right from the start, Fulcrum road wheels earned the trust of great champions, and in the first four years they were first to cross the finish line for four consecutive wins at the world championship: with Tom Boonen in 2005 and with Paolo Bettini in 2006 and 2007, followed by the 2008 victory of Alessandro Ballan. But Fulcrum triumphs are not limited to road races. In 2006 and 2007 Julien Absalon was the world XC champion and in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics he took the gold medal!!

Our patent-pending 2-Wave Rim™ design gives the new SHARQ GR and SONIQ GR their signature looks and aerodynamic performance. This unique profile, which alternates between 47mm and 52mm, consists of a periodic wave that progresses regularly at the center of the rim, becoming irregular as it moves closer to the outer walls.

The effect is twofold: the symmetrical center wave means less exposed surface area for reduced crosswind drag, while the asymmetrical wave at the edges disrupts airflow to further enhance handling.

Coupled with the wider internal channel on the GR Series, the result is a gravel-racing wheel with superior handling, reactivity, and aerodynamics—with measurable energy savings of up to 29% under certain conditions compared to a regular-profile rim of equal height and width.

As you may expect, our new SHARQ GR and SONIQ GR wheels both feature a more traditional hooked rim design for maximum tire compatibility and rider safety—without compromising on speed, rolling resistance, or overall comfort and performance.

Despite the more challenging production process compared to hookless rims, these mini-hooks ensure a reliable connection between the rim and a wider range of gravel tires. Importantly, this mini-hook design approach also guarantees greater safety due to its reinforced rim fl**ge. Unlike hookless rims, which require riders to maintain specific pressures within fairly narrow parameters, mini-hooks remain secure, even when recommended pressures are accidentally exceeded.

That means you can ride confidently, focusing on winning the race instead of worrying about losing a tire on a tight turn. Learn more at the link in bio.

Rolling resistance has long been a key performance consideration for road cycling. Yet, as gravel races grow longer and faster, it has increasingly become a factor in off-road competition as well—with a tire’s footprint directly affecting rolling resistance.

Narrow tires result in a longer flattened area at the point of contact between the tire and the ground. This, in turn, reduces the wheel’s roundness, leading to greater deformation during rotation.

In contrast, a wide tire has a shorter flattened area, minimizing impact on rolling resistance and allowing riders to maintain higher speeds with less power. The advantage may be marginal, but it’s the type of efficiency that can mean the difference between winning and losing when the race is on the line.

In the heat of the race, precise cornering control is critical to maintaining momentum—and your position in the pack. By expanding the internal channel on our GR series wheels, we allow the tire to maintain an optimal shape through every phase of the turn, enhancing the contact patch, stability, and overall performance.

This wider channel, paired with our signature mini-hooks, also helps prevent any tubeless tire “burping”, increasing safety and delivering a more consistent, confident ride feel—even at higher pressures and during the considerable forces of sharp corners.

With an expanded 30mm internal width, our new SHARQ GR and SONIQ GR wheels are specifically designed for use with wider tires—45mm and up. This rim-tire interface avoids the constriction caused when wide tires are mounted on narrower rims, a.k.a. the “lightbulb effect”.

Instead, by pairing wide tires with wide rims, our new GR series optimizes the overall wheel system aerodynamics, allowing the tire to maintain an ideal roundness and dramatically improving airflow interaction for a more efficient ride on gravel roads. Learn more now at the link in our bio.

Wider thinking, sharper riding—meet the new SHARQ GR and SONIQ GR.

As gravel racing evolves—with higher average speeds over more difficult terrain—our performance wheel lineup must expand to meet these new demands. Purpose-built for the specific challenges faced by gravel racers, our new GR series wheels feature a broader 30mm internal width that’s perfectly matched for 47-50mm tires, dramatically improving airflow interaction and reducing rolling resistance.

The 47-52mm irregular 2-Wave Rim™ profile boosts handling, reactivity, and aerodynamic performance, demonstrating energy savings up to 29% compared to a regular profile rim of equal height and width.

Focused, wide, and fast.
