A Tip on Crafting Your MBA Personal Statement.

Be purposeful in your writing.

Avoid empty talk. If you find yourself filling the page with a list of things that attracted you to the university, you’re wasting words — the reader already knows the school’s selling points. Instead, choose one thing about the programme and use a portion of your personal statement to tell why you’re interested in it. The admissions officer will be impressed with your knowledge of the school and feel good about the fact that the programme can offer you what you need to reach your goals.

CU. B4. BRB. BTW. TTYL. Texting Abbreviations. They are opaque and can confuse. To language learners and those of us who are not "millenials." They throw all the rules of spelling and grammar out the window. If you're not a millennial, (which I declare I am not), you'll be frequently embarrassed from asking your sender, younger sibling, or children ever so often "What is Kl?", as I had to query when my youngest sister used it on Whatsapp recently, or when my daughter first used BRB? Emphasise or Emphasize?

As we consume American content, it becomes easier to cross over using their language forms.

One of those language issues that can and does create some confusion, especially for those of us who grew up in the British Commonwealth and who learnt British English forms at school often occurs when we have to choose between the British spelling and the American spelling of a word.

As many of the American spellings gain popularity, words like 'emphasise' and 'emphasize' sometimes stop me in my tracks.

This most happens when I am writing and I encounter one of these words. My brain goes, 'which one should I use again?' I'm forced to head to the dictionary to confirm or remind myself of what the British spelling is.

Now that I've got it in my head, you can bet I won't forget again.
