ニュージーランド人の目から見た名古屋の良さの寄稿をもらいました。
Great things about Nagoya through the eyes of a Kiwi!!
After spending half my life in Japan, and the majority of that time around the Nagoya area, it’s one place I’m proud to call my ‘second home’.
So, what makes Nagoya such a great place? Well, I’ll do my best to let you in a few secrets from the eyes of a New Zealander. With a population of a little over 2 million, Nagoya is neither too big nor too small. The convenience of a great public transport system that includes trains, subway lines and buses makes it easy to get around the city with ease.
If it’s endless shopping, eating or drinking you are after, you are truly spoilt even in and around the city. From the luxury shops and department stores around the Nagoya station and Sakae areas through to the local fashion brand stores in the Osu district, there is something that answers everyone shopping needs and tastes. For food and drink, you can also enjoy every kind of Japanese food as well as an array of other cuisine available at a vast variety of restaurants and bars within the city. After taking in the city atmosphere, there are more sightseeing options. A quick subway ride to Nagoya castle is a great way to start your look into Nagoya’s history. But that’s not all! A 30-40 minute bus ride can get you to two other great spots—the Noritake Garden or the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. And remember too, that the neighboring prefecture of Gifu full of great outdoor spots for hiking, camping or river barbecues is just a stone’s throw away. What more could you ask for?
But at the end of the day, what makes Nagoya great is its people. While they may seem a little shy at first, the citizens of Nagoya, like people in many other parts of Japan, are very kind and caring. People will go out of the way to help you if you are lost or looking for a place. All you need to do is ask. From a Kiwi perspective, this is what makes Nagoya a great home away from home. So, kick back, relax and enjoy its wonders!
自分の人生の半分を日本で過ごしている。そのほとんどが名古屋近辺となり、もう「第二の故郷」と呼んでいい位素晴らしいところである。なぜ素晴らしいと思うか、ニュージーランド人である僕の目から見た名古屋の良さを紹介したいと思う。
まずは、2百万人を少し超える街の人口からして、小さくもなく、大きくもない、ちょうどいい規模が１つのいい点である。電車、地下鉄、バスといった便利且つしっかりした交通手段の豊富さで街を廻るには不自由が１つもない。
選択肢には終わりがない買い物を求めるのであれば、名古屋も他の主要都市に負けていない。名駅周辺にあるデパートやブランド店はもちろんのこと、栄や大須といったヒップなところもあって、訪れる人の好みに合うものを見つけることに違いない。飲食となると、世界各国の食べ物もそうだが、和食や美味しいお酒が楽しめる店が山ほどある。つまり名古屋の楽しい雰囲気は買い物でも飲食でも楽しめるところがそれだけいっぱい存在するという素晴らしさもある。
観光と面でもどれを選ぼうかとぜいたくな気分を味わう位見所がたくさんある。外国から来る人を案内するなら、名古屋の歴史が感じられる「名古屋城」を始め、ぜひ「ノリタケの森」と「トヨタ産業技術記念館」も忘れないでおこう。また、ニュージーランドとして嬉しいのは、ハイキングやキャンプ、川岸でのバーベキューも楽しめる岐阜県もほんの目と鼻の先にある名古屋のローケーションの良さである。これ以上何を望めようか！
でも、結局は一番の良さがやはり名古屋人というところになるであろう。第一印象は「ちょっと控えめ」となるが、一般的に日本人によく見れる優しさや思いやりが僕の第二の故郷となった名古屋の一番の良さだと感じている。道に迷ったり、場所を探している時には、名古屋市民に聞けば親切に教えてくれる。名古屋を訪れる皆さんに是非名古屋のそれぞれの良さを味わってもらいたい。
