As far as I am concerned and know from experience, trials as well as errors, the best way to make a good bedding for Sheep, Goats, Cows, Horses and Chickens is to power wash the barn with high pressure, hot water first, then disinfect it with strong altering Desinfektion solutions, Limes the white wash the barn with lime and then cover it with dry lime powder. Afterwards lay a first layer of saw mill food dust followed by a second layer of shopped straw and some more lime powder on top followed by another layer wood shavings. The water should supplied with citric acid and electrolyte to bring it to a PH of 5.5-6.0.
Every day following the barn cleaning another layer of showings and saw mill dust should be added. And the water cleaned out daily. This will keep infections, virus levels, parasites, funguses as well as mold and bacteria’s at an extremely low to non existent level. Keeping the flock, the herd, the coop, and all livestocks animals in general very healthy and parasite free. Helping to maximize growth, production and training to optimal levels. The next point would be ventilation, with constant frech air supply. The feed should never come into contact with the bedding area. And all need should be completely separated from the bedding area, either through fences or feeding venues. The barn cleaning should be repeated weekly or monthly. Depending on density and numbers of heads per box. Ideally the barn is constructed in a manner that the use of a skid steer is permissible for cost effective and rapid processes of this task.
Important is also that the barn floor has a double way sloop of no less than 3 degrees away from the feeding and water area towards the back and from one end of the barn towards the lowers exist of this one. This to drain away fluids such a urines and spilling some of water. Those should be captured in a sealed tank to be spread of the fields in the growing season.
