"Reserved" and "soft distance"
ーThe act of Design
This is Yuki speaking.
If you think about things which is usually irreversible, you might want to take a look that where you are. This time, I’m roughly talking about my thinking of how to handle design, including the story of my team.
[A team with wide-angle vision]
I’m belong IDL[INFOBAHN DESIGN LAB.]. In order to design invisible things or things even not yet exist, we assemble the signs of subtle changes and dig into depths of people through research such as interviews, co-creation and workshops etc. We make the process integrated and redefine value while making it visible and accessible.
[Inviolable area]
“How good can you reach through the provided requirements and materials?” ” What’s the point make you think this is good enough?”
” Is that really true?” ”Is it meaningful for you?”
When those questions appeared, I started to worry that there was an “inviolable area” that I have difficulty to reach.
[Insist the “Reserved” at the wide design realm]
In fact, when I participate in various projects, I find out the context and reason behind things through research and think about the “meaning” of the object. There was a feeling that I was deeply and deeply approached to the very essence of the act of design by being sublimated to and becoming aware of it.
[Soft distance]
The ability to look critically at the target and to face it at a "soft distance" is one of the inherent characteristics of designers. Due to its characteristics, I think the flexibility is good to deal with the changes in processes and frameworks, even if the target is large.
