It was announced that the iconic filmmaker David Lynch passed away at age 78.

His impact on the film industry can’t be disputed. He’s directed renowned films such as Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, and many more. In addition to his overall vision, these films have had an everlasting impact on the fashion industry.

Whether direct or indirect, Lynch’s vision has influenced brands such as Raf Simons, Prada, MSGM, and many more. In fact, during Comme Des Garcons’ SS2016 presentation, the soundtrack of Blue Velvet played throughout the runway show.

In 2014, KENZO tapped Lynch to collaborate on the set and soundtrack for the AW2014 presentation. The set was playful, featuring mirrors lining the walls and a runway reminiscent of a maze.

Raf Simons’ AW2019 paid homage to Lynch in many ways. For starters, the runway show invitation included a photo of Laura Dern’s character in Blue Velvet. Taking it a step further, Dern sat front row at the show. For the collection itself, Simons obtained the rights to use imagery from Lynch’s films on the actual clothes.

Undercover followed suit with its AW2024 collection, doing something similar, except this time, they used photos of characters and moments from Twin Peaks on the apparel. Even the collection’s title, “Wonderful and Strange,” was pulled from a quote in the film.

Beyond his influence on the runway, Lynch was also tapped by a few fashion houses for his eye as a director. In 2007, he directed a commercial for Gucci. Lynch also had the opportunity to write, direct, and edit a short film for Dior in 2010 during the John Galliano era.

Swipe for a closer look at some of Lynch’s influential moments in the fashion.

The Sukajan jacket, or Souvenir Jacket, has been a staple of Japanese fashion since post-WWII. , the original maker, and are continuing their tradition of reimagining the silhouette, this time honoring Japan’s four seasons.

Inspired by a mid-1950s Sukajan, the reversible jacket features “Spring” with floral embroidery and a Maiko amid cherry blossoms on one side, and “Winter” with the Maiko in falling snow on the other. Both sides include cuffed sleeves and a waistband.

shared 10 wisdoms with for 2025.

Do you agree with Yohji’s takes?

Yohji has always been very open with his thoughts and philosophy, but also admits his arrogance and naivety sometimes.

His attitude is commendable and may be an inspiration for how you want to be in 2025.

Repost from

Jun Takahashi is most famous for founding Japanese fashion labek UNDERCOVER but he's also an accomplished artist.

Though he specializes in tactile mediums like drawing and paiting, Takahashi's far-reaching skillset is fully on display in the multimedia exhibition Peaceable Kingdom, hosted by WKM Gallery until December 14.

We spoke ahead of the exhibition.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣'𝙩 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙣?

In the end, clothing is determined by the shape of the human body. If it’s a jacket or a t-shirt, it has sleeves, and you are designing the details within that framework. In the case of a painting, when creating within a canvas where anything is possible, I can express whatever I want. The freedom that it gives me is completely different.

𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙩, 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚?

Art and fashion are different because they express different things. Fashion is all about designing clothing but it’s also determined by the person wearing the garment. Art is a different genre [medium]. Either way, I think I am able to express myself with both, however art allows for… how to put it, more emotions. Stronger emotions.

𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙧, 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙢𝙤𝙞𝙡. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜?

It’s always been a mix. That is how I want to be, and I don’t think there is one that I am leaning towards. For example, even if I’ve created something incredibly beautiful, there is bound to be something that’s not in there. I’m thinking about what to add to it to maintain the original balance of the garment and what to add or subtract from it.

Repost from

Keiji Nakazawa, one of the most influential sushi masters in the world, has been at work in Manhattan since March, when his restaurant, Sushi Sho, opened to very little fanfare.

You’d have no way of knowing that Nakazawa also runs three sushi counters in Tokyo and another Sushi Sho in Honolulu, each harder to book than the last. Or that about 30 chefs he trained carry on his style at their own restaurants in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul and Los Angeles.

The experience at Sushi Sho doesn’t come cheap, but the more you taste, the clearer it becomes that Nakazawa is extraordinarily accomplished in his craft. He is, in fact, the latest in a wave of Japanese sushi masters who have helped to make New York into the most important sushi city in the world outside Japan. He’s also known for leading the revival of Edomae, a tradition that made its comeback from historical relic to the status it holds today as the default mode for serious sushi counters.

How much does it cost to taste the work of one of Japan’s great sushi masters? Step inside Sushi Sho and learn more about Nakazawa’s inspiration, traditions and Edomae mastery at the link in our bio. Photos by

Repost from

In Germantown, N.Y., the men’s wear designer Jesse Rowe has opened , a boutique that’s equal parts coffee shop, cabinet of curiosities and listening lounge. Housed in a converted barn, Zebra Room devotes most of its square footage to a collection of midcentury Scandinavian furniture that Rowe’s brother imports from Copenhagen (highlights include an Inca chair by Arne Norell). There are also secondhand clothes and goods, from vintage marinière shirts to handmade leather dog collars. A coffee bar (which serves everything from Mexican café de olla to cold brew tonics topped with yuzu) is set up in a cube leftover from an exhibition held by the shop’s next-door neighbors Alexander Gray Associates. Rowe and his wife, the interior designer , clad the plaster installation with hemlock wood to keep with the natural feel of the space; they also stocked it with Rowe’s record collection and sound system, which the designer has modeled after those in Japan’s kissa cafes. Fashion’s newest frontier might just be tennis — again.

The sport’s biggest names, Serena Williams and Roger Federer, have retired in recent seasons, and others like Rafael Nadal are likely to soon follow suit, paving the way for a new generation of stars to front their own fashion campaigns. Naomi Osaka ushered in this new chapter when she defeated Williams at the 2018 US Open, and at the forefront of the pack today is 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz, widely considered the highest-paid tennis player in 2024 and an ambassador for LVMH, Rolex and Calvin Klein. This week at the US Open, Osaka donned a fashion-forward (maybe Brat) green ensemble with statement bows, ruffles and tulle detailing, designed by Yoon Ahn, founder of Tokyo label Ambush, in collaboration with Nike.

Seven out of the 10 highest-paid tennis players this year, according to Sportico, are Gen-Z, or 27 and younger. They include Gauff, Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu.

Interest in tennis right now is also driven by a confluence of cultural factors, from the growing popularity of sister sports such as pickleball and padel to the revival of retro trends that evoke a “vintage athletic country club” aesthetic, according to Craig Brommers, ’s chief marketing officer.

Capitalising on the sport’s surging popularity presents an attractive opportunity for fashion brands, but they’ll need to get creative in identifying the right rising star. Read the full story

Move over Mediterranean diet, the Okinawan diet has entered the chat.

High in nutrients and antioxidants and with a unique portioning system, the traditional Okinawan diet isn’t just healthy for humans—it’s good for the planet.

Mounting research suggests there’s a lot we can learn about living a long life from Okinawa, which is one of the geographic regions around the world with the highest concentration of people who live to age 100 or older, known as “Blue Zones.”

Learn more about the benefits of Okinawan cuisine at the link in bio.
