Moses Wetang'ula represented Hezekiah Ochuka during his treason trial in the military court martial.

Senior Private Hezekiah Ochuka masterminded the failed August 1, 1982 coup d'état against President Daniel arap Moi. After briefly fleeing to Tanzania, Ochuka was extradited back to Kenya to face trial.

At the time, Moses Wetang'ula was a young, rookie advocate. Most established senior lawyers refused to take the case out of fear of state victimization and retaliation from the Moi regime.

Wetang'ula took the high-stakes risk and was paid a fee of approximately KSh 20,000 to KSh 30,000 for representing Ochuka and other Kenya Air Force servicemen.

Despite the defense, Ochuka was convicted of treason and sentenced to death. He was executed by hanging at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison in 1987.

JUST IN: A tragic road accident occurred earlier this morning at the Kamatira blackspot along the Lodwar–Kitale Highway in West Pokot County, involving a truck and a Lodwar Prestige passenger vehicle.

Authorities are yet to release details on casualties or the cause of the crash as emergency response efforts continue at the scene.
