"As we Commemorate the Global World Tuberculosis Day Today 24th March 2021 TB remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious killers, each day, nearly 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 28,000 people fall ill with this preventable and curable disease!
Tuberculosis is taking a heavy toll on women, affecting them in the prime of their lives; women when they are economically and reproductively active, the impact of the disease is also strongly felt by their children and families. Gender Inequality, discrimination, violence, limited access to education and a lack of tailored services inhibit women’s access to health care and fuel new infections
With the Global theme “Clock is ticking” reminds us that we are running out of time to act on our commitments to End TB.
Let us all join the fight to find the people infected with TB who are missed by the existing mechanisms, especially the women and girls and ensure access to TB prevention, treatment, and care.
Our governments must mobilise sufficient and sustainable financing to TB scale up TB diagnosis and treatment, especially as a key component of reproductive and maternal health services for women and girls."
