🎓 Exploring Data Analysis: Understanding Regression 📊

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to present the concept of regression analysis to University students in the lecture hall at in one of the Universities in Nairobi. It’s always rewarding to share knowledge and see the spark of understanding in their eyes!

📈 Why Regression?
Regression analysis is a powerful statistical tool that helps us understand relationships between variables. Whether it’s predicting trends or making informed decisions, mastering this concept is essential for anyone venturing into data science or analytics.

There must be a connection between your data analysis results and findings and the problem under investigation.
If the null hypothesis is a positive hypothesis it doesn't mean that you must confirm or the results must comply to the same. It simply means that the same can go either sides that is positive or negative you can reject or accept the null hypothesis as guided by the results.
Make sure that all the analysis that is the dedriotive, diagnostic and the inferential statistics have all touched on the objectives and that there is an objective or an analysis for each research question.

Make it your purpose to understand your problem, this is because your problem must come out clearly from you.
You might present many citations and items but at the end of the day we must be able to see a connection between your argument and what had been done in the past.
You must feel that you are answering an existing problem in literature.

Have a contextual and a Conceptual gap so that you have something to e plain about.
Further, when it comes to the flow of the problem it must be felt in the Abstract, appear in the introduction clearly and then be cultivated in the background of the study and be mentioned and supported by the objectives and research questions or hypothesis.
We cannot overemphasise the need for your study to have and mention all or most of your variables in the review of literature. Make sure that even through the auxiliary variables might be overlooked that you take time to cover, explain and articulate the variables in the objectives (all of them)

The voice of the researcher should be clear and you should be head therein. This is because we cannot have you present a summary or other people's studies as your original work.
Make sure you put in your part and present the criticisms or commendations for previous studies.
This will enable you to confidently point to your gap or gap in literature.

There are many factors,Issues and phenomenon that are ripe for study.
However, the best thing is interest and your support for the study you intend to investigate.
Give life and vigour to your topic so that you can be able to have affinity for the study. If your topic is lively then it will not only motivate you to proceed it will also help your readers to engage with the same.
Remember your study is a journey and it may take a while to complete so if you get bored then you need motivation if you have a topic that does not captivate your motivation, immagination and interest this might affect your progress in the longrun.
Further, make sure you get objectives that are researchable and variables that are measurable. If this is not done then you may end up experiencing an issue in measurement and especially in data collection.

,Results and Problem under investigation (Chapter Four).

We have already said that we need to use a language that is clear, simple and easy for the readers to understand. This is because when you use complex jargon they might end up confusing the readers.
However, the jargon and technical language in data analysis might be rigid and not directly simlifiable or able to simplify.
One should try to make it as direct and easy as possible for the readers.
This also goes into the findings of the study in a bid to connect what you have found to what you wanted to investigate. For example what you used as variables may have been proxy to represent and measure the actual variables so you must endeavour to bring out what you mean by what you found and how the same speaks to the problem under investigation.

Primary Dataset
In this case since the outputs might be tables and figures they maybe self explanatory like the graphs, histograms and pie-charts.

Secondary dataset
In this case the outputs might be more complex which may include the regression tables results, the correlation tables, unitroot test results among others.
In this arrangement make sure you directly report what these tables are showing that is the outputs coefficients.
Report the probability value and what it implies either significant or not significant.
Report the T-values and coefficients and what they mean whether significant or not significant.
Report the hypothesis that was suggested when conducting the test (e.g H0: presence of Unitroot)

Report the results comprehensively and if your format allows you can have a section for discussion.
If not then the discussion of the results and findings will be done in chapter five (Conclusion and Findings)
In this section you now report on what the results mean exactly and how it speaks to your problem under investigation 🔎.

Results and findings
The results of your findings can be presented by the inferential statistics which means that you can use either the OLS regression model, GARCH model, ARCH model, ARDL models among others. The selection and decision criteria on the type to choose is based on your objectives and purpose of the Study. Remember to always start with the descriptive statistics that checks the features if the series, the diagnostic statistics and then you can do the inferential stats.
In the event that you experience hiccups at the diagnostic statistics where you find that there are inconsistencies especially at the correlation levels and results then this might call for action to solve these autocorrelation or severe correlation in order to avoid multicollinearity or spurious results.
If anything these results will give wrong implications about the phenomenon under investigation.
Further, it will also not be allowed toproceed to the next level by your supervisors who can pick this mistakes very fast.
These mistakes will be a point of disappointment and as such they should be corrected at the diagnostic tests level.
The reasons for conducting the diagnostic tests is to check for these inconsistencies.
If we'll addressed it allows for better results and conclusion with correct implications by the study.

Take a Break.
Take a break but never give up. Just because you feel overwhelmed by the pressure of finishing your study doesn't mean you should break your back no. You can do schedules and break your tasks into smaller tasks that you will do as you go on with your study. This means that your small tasks will amount to bigger progress when they are aggregated.
Never give up.

In all fairness it is crucial to acknowledge that the Supervisors remains the sole gate keepers who can confidently decide your fate when it comes yo passing your Proposals defence or your Research Methods exam to that matter.
Why do you think they are made your Supervisor's?
They know what you are investigating and have a level of experience in the same. Further they are known to have interacted with whatever you are investigating so allow them a benefit of doubt.
However, this is not to say that all Supervisors knows what they are assigned to No.
Some of them would want your support and information on what us it your intent to investigate so that you guys can move together swiftly.
Therefore, for all intents and purposes the Supervisor is supposed to guide you to successfully complete your Study until its complete.
The expectation from the school and department is that you guys will create a rapport and device how to move together.
Further, contrary to your expectation the Supervisors will not help, aid or support you during presentation even when a mistake arises which was their fault they expect you to pull off some stunts and manoeuvre through it to the other side.
