The ocean is more than a resource—it’s our lifeline. Through aquaculture, we can boost food security, create jobs for youth and women, and protect wild fish stocks from overfishing.
Investing in the Blue Economy means:
✅ Sustainable livelihoods
✅ Climate resilience
✅ Healthy oceans for generations
Let’s harness innovation, technology, and community-driven solutions to unlock the full potential of our waters. Together, we can make the Blue Economy a driver of prosperity and sustainability

A Great Honour to Join a Community Committed to Sustainable Livelihoods! 🐟🌊

It was a true honour to join the Empower Fish Farming Group and the Jomvu Beach Management Unit (BMU) during their 2 DAY impactful meeting and training session starting today led by dedicated officials from KMFRI (Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute).
The session focused on critical aspects of fish farming and sustainable fisheries management, equipping the community with knowledge and practical skills that are key to enhancing productivity and protecting our blue resources.
Among the knowledge gained from today is:
1. We should capitalize on algae growth/ booming through the intergration of manure in our ponds or through fertilizing using sisal gunny bags at the corner of our ponds so as to reduce on supplementary feeds.
2. We should check on our fish behavior for any unusual or change in response in terms of feeding patterns and activeness. That means not feeding them very early in the morning, maintain a constant schedule of feeding, reduce feeding during the rainy period, introduction of solar aerators to increase oxygen percentage especially at night when the fish and algal plants compete for oxygen and also boost their growth over a short period.
3. Pond treatment with agricultural lime especially before stocking where the pond should be completely drained and dried for a period of 1-2 weeks before stocking. The treatment is at the rate of 100grams/Msquared.
4. Monitoring and sampling should be done monthly to ward off predators and also check on the rate of calculation of the feeding quantity according to their weight and age.
the training will continue tomorrow on other topics to be covered on fish farming.

👏🏽 We commend KMFRI for their continued commitment to building capacity at the grassroots, and salute the Empower Group and Jomvu BMU for embracing training, innovation, and collaboration in growing the blue economy.

This kind of engagement reflects the power of unity, knowledge-sharing, and determination in transforming lives through aquaculture. Together, we’re not just farming fish—we’re farming a better future for our coastal communities! 🌱🐠

🌊 The Future of the Blue Economy is Here 🌍
The blue economy — the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and ocean ecosystem health — is no longer just a concept. It’s a movement gaining global momentum.
As we face climate change and ocean degradation, investing in a resilient, equitable blue economy is key to a sustainable future — for people, planet, and profit.
