A top insurance company is looking to fill the [position(s) of a unit manager (sales) in one of its branches in Nairobi
Job description – Unit manager
PURPOSE: Responsible for managing and growing the Unit workforce.
RELATIONSHIPS Directly Reports to Agency Manager
Indirectly Reports to Branch Manager - Business Development Manager - Regional Manager
Directly Manages / Supervises - Financial Advisors (sales agents)
KEY OUTPUTS / TASKS
• To recruit, motivate and retain a strong sales Unit and its management.
• To supervise, appraise and train the sales Unit management.
• To manage productivity and growth of ordinary life business within a Unit.
• To generate revenues as per Unit budgets.
• To manage and minimize the business risk in the Unit.
• Building a higher performance ethics in the network among the sales Unit.
• Ensure compliance with the relevant authorities for all Financial Advisors.
• Generate production and management reports for the Unit.
• Monitor Unit operations expenses as budgeted
• Open up new markets (check off) with Financial Advisors to achieve the set budgets.
• Provide leadership and support to direct reports through training and staff motivation to achieve the operational objectives.
• Supervise and allocate accounts for direct reports.
• Meet own annual sales targets.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
• To co-ordinate individual life products distribution within the Unit and ensure that they are strong enough to support the business.
• Ensure that the Unit sales targets are met and surpassed.
• Ensure that the Financial Advisors are continuously and properly trained on the products and procedures.
• Ensure that the Financial Advisors are highly motivated.
• Design promotional activities and materials to increase awareness of our products by the existing and prospective clients. Enforce discipline in the Unit.
• Vet applications for Financial Advisors and give recommendations on the best candidates who meet the set criterions to the Agency Manager for interviews.
• Ensure a business persistency level as per the AKI standards in the Unit.
• Train and motivate the Financial Advisors
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree
• A Diploma in Sales and Marketing or its equivalent
• Certificate of Proficiency in insurance (C.O.P)
• IRA Agent License
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
At least three years in a supervisory capacity within the financial services industry

• Excellent negotiation skills
• Excellent recruitment and Training skills
• Computer use skills
• Planning and organizing skills
• General knowledge of insurance products and the competition
• General understanding of Kenyan labour laws
AUTHORITY LEVELS / RISKS
• Determines own work schedules
• Recruits and terminate non performing Financial Advisors.
• Prepares the sales competition and approve the payment
• Recommend expenditures as per budget
SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS
Working long hours
Remuneration; The remuneration of the Unit Manager shall be constituted as follows:
1. Override Commissions; The Company shall pay override commissions which is the gross commission generated from the unit including your personal sales.
2. Personal sales (own sales).
3. Performance Incentive; The company pays performance incentive subject to consistent achievement of monthly target and criteria on key performance indicators.
