CABBAGES PROJECT 17 UPDATE ( Naivasha)

Today marks 25 days after transplanting this Victoria F1 cabbage. With a good vegatative growth accelerated by foliar and base dressing fertilizer plus water ( rain water).

So far so good but after a continuous scouting we have noticed few aphids which needs to be dealt with immediately before making any mess. Remember despite how aphids may seem to be harmless they can cause very big loss on your farm.

Aphids feed on the sup of the plant. It deprives the nutrients making the plant turn like cream , this slows the growth of the plant.

Never assume a pest when you come across it in the farm.

ONIONS PROJECT 8 UPDATE
Push harder than yesterday
We are still thriving well here on the farm. After fighting with thrips in the last couple of weeks in this farm we have managed to get rid of them though not 100 %. Some of its effects can be seen on the leaves.

Now it has rained and we have noticed a decrease in thrips multiplication. But as a farmer this is not the right time to joy ride , ensure you do random check ups on your farm not only your onion even others.

When it comes to spraying especially right now please ensure that you add a sticker or wetter in your chemicals mixture. Also on pest and disease control management ensure hygiene in your farm

CABBAGES PROJECT 14 UPDATE

Great things never come from comfort zones

The journey continues step by step. Healthy crops for healthy planet. On our previous updates we noticed so much enquiries about the spacing we have used in here.

The ideal spacing for medium sized heads is 45 cm by 45 cm. For those interested in bigger heads you can do 60 by 45 cm. Also variety matters a lot when it comes to cabbage production.

Some varieties go upto 6 kilos averagely others go to 3 kilos averagely. Now depending on the target market as a farmer you need to consider this

ONIONS PROJECT 16 UPDATE

New week. New Vibes. New Goals.

We are still doing what we like . When it comes to onion management you must sacrifice your time, your energy because onion is about care. Its like a small baby, it's, growth is determined by what you feed it.

Last time through the cool heart warming message we received we noticed a lot of them saying their onion didn't form a bulb, why?

Lack of formation of bulbs is brought about by couple of things

1. Depth of planting
2 Wrong nutrition regime

On depth, onions should be planted 3 to 5 cm deep, this allows the bulb to have a good area of bulbing .

Nutrition is the main heart of the the growth. Always know which nutrients is required at what stage and why.

As a farmer before starting any venture in farming get to see others what are doing take notes, learn and have an experienced consultant

Total population : 20,000heads

One and half weeks after transplanting

Variety : VICTORIA F1

Pic 3 and 4 was taken few minutes after transplanting

So far we are working on root development and vegetative growth . So far pest noticed under our scouting record is cabbage loopers. First spray already done. This will eradicate them all and protect against any other pest that can show up.

Remember this project is among the mega ones we are doing. Consistency in marketing is equal to consistency in production.
