The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has warned Kenyans about a falsified batch of Postinor-2 emergency contraceptive tablets circulating in the country.
The affected batch is T34197R, labelled as Postinor-2 Levonorgestrel 0.75mg. PPB says the fake tablets may contain incorrect amounts of the active ingredient, no active ingredient, harmful contaminants or undeclared substances, meaning they may not work as intended.
The regulator has urged pharmacies, hospitals and the public to verify the product before use and buy medicines only from PPB-licensed suppliers. Two people have been arrested in connection with the falsified products as investigations continue.
