2021.

Vijana wakaingia kwa kilimo na confidence ya watu wamepata tender ya serikali.

Goal? Very simple: make the first million.

Hakuna business plan ya maana.
Hakuna market research ya kutosha.
Lakini confidence? 100%.

Tulidhani ukipanda leo, kesho pesa inaanza kutingisha M-Pesa.

Fast forward… tumegundua kilimo si shortcut ya utajiri. Ni business yenye bills, risks, heartbreaks na lessons.

But one thing is clear: tulianza na dream. Sasa tuna experience.

LET’S TALK TOMATOES FROM THE CONSUMER’S SIDE.

Farmers spend a lot of time asking:

“How much are tomatoes selling for?”

But today, I want to ask the people who actually buy them:

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY BUY YOUR TOMATOES?

🅰️ Open-air market
🅱️ Local shop/kiosk
🅲️ Supermarket
🅳️ Directly from a farmer
🅴️ Tomato vendor

Just drop A, B, C, D or E in the comments.

And if your answer isn't here, tell me where you normally buy yours.

I’m trying to understand one thing:

Where does the tomato leave the farmer and finally enter your kitchen?

KSh 250,000 FOR ONE DORPER SHEEP? 🐑

A Dorper sheep going for KSh 250,000 has caught attention but before farmers rush to invest, there’s a bigger question:
What makes this particular sheep worth KSh 250,000?
Is it elite genetics? A proven breeding record? Registered pedigree? Or exceptional offspring?
This is where Agriconmanship comes in.
Don't just look at the price tag. Look at the economics.
If the sheep can generate valuable offspring and improve your flock, KSh 250,000 could be an investment.
But if you can't calculate how it will recover that money…
You may have bought an expensive sheep, not a profitable asset. 😂
Agriconmanship: Don't follow the hype. Follow the numbers.

WHAT IS AGRICONMANSHIP? — MY PERSPECTIVE

To me, Agriconmanship is what happens when agricultural advice becomes more about selling you a dream than helping you understand the business.

For example:

An agronomist tells you:

“One tomato plant can give you 20 kg in a season.”

Then comes the magic question:

“Now imagine if we planted 1,000 plants?” 🤯

Suddenly, you're calculating millions in your head.

But nobody asked you the important questions:

What will it cost to produce those tomatoes?

Who will buy them?

At what price?

What happens if the market price falls?

What if disease attacks the crop?

What if your expected yield doesn't happen?

What about labour, irrigation, fertilizers, pesticides, transport, packaging and post-harvest losses?

This is where I believe farmers get trapped.

Fear is sold to farmers. Dreams are sold to farmers. Inputs are sold to farmers.

But sometimes, the business reality is never explained.

That is why I call it AGRICONMANSHIP.

Not because every agronomist is dishonest.

But because farmers must learn to recognize when agricultural knowledge is being used to influence a decision instead of helping them make an informed one.

My philosophy is simple:

Don't just ask, “How much can I produce?”

Ask:

“How much will I spend, how much can I realistically produce, who will buy it, at what price, and what will I remain with?”

That is the conversation farmers deserve.
