With the The Metaverse Institute, we have signed a landmark MoU to craft Africa’s first governance & adoption framework for the . ATU SG John Omo, together with Metaverse Institute's CEO, Dr Christina Yan Zhang, shared the view that this is a “Historic step that opens safe, inclusive virtual economies for Africa.”

The MoU matters because with a staggering USD 5 trillion required for training humanoid robots, the Metaverse provides solutions for issues that are too expensive—such as the development of smart cities infrastructure—and too bold, like facilitating risk-free surgical training, medical simulations, or the safe training of humanoid robots.

Following this MoU signing, we are now set to form joint working groups that will draft continent-wide policies & standards, roll out VR/blockchain training, and track pilot projects. Secretary General John Omo this morning welcomed Ms. Elizabeth Migwalla, Qualcomm's Vice President, International Government Affairs, at the Union’s HQ in Nairobi.

They discussed the upcoming Regional Development Forum and Regional Preparatory Meetings in Nairobi, which will be hosted by Communications Authority of Kenya. Also deliberated on key matters on radiocommunication, standardization, and the ATU Africa Innovation Challenge - a partnership with Huawei & ITU, whose finals begin in a fortnight.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in driving digital advancement across the continent.
