There are people who think you need a lot of money to save.

Ladies and gentlemen, there's never a lot of money...

Until you make the decision to save FIRST before spending no matter the amount you EARN or MAKE, you will never really SAVE.

Forget all the formulas you have been told about, on how you need to save, just set aside some money for rainy days.

Nobody is coming to save you, it's the 10 shillings set aside that will come through for you when you need the 1000 shillings urgently.

Do you agree? Share this thought with someone today.

Some Sundays are not about planning big things.

They’re about looking at where you are
without shame.

If money has been tight,
if plans didn’t work out this week,
pause before judging yourself.

Planning is not about having more money.
It’s about giving whatever you have a little direction.

Even one small thought like...
“What needs my money first next week?”
is a form of planning.

Go gently.
Tomorrow, we try again.

31/01/2026

Surviving is still effort.

Waking up every day

Showing up...
Trying again...
Stretching small money...
Making hard choices...

That is not laziness.
That is work.

You may not be where you want to be financially,
but you are not doing nothing.

Progress on low or irregular income is often quiet.
And quiet effort still counts.

Be gentle with yourself.

Being busy does not mean you have cash.

You can work every day, earn something, and still struggle to pay basic things.

That doesn’t mean you’re careless.
It usually means money timing is working against you.

Money comes in today.
Expenses were already waiting yesterday.

That gap, between when money comes and when money is needed, is a cash flow problem.

And cash flow is not about how much you earn.
It’s about when money comes in and where it goes first.

If money always feels like it disappears quickly,
this conversation is for you.

Does this sound familiar?

Most people are not bad with money.

They’re just never taught how to plan it simply.

You budget, but still feel stuck
You earn, but don’t see progress
You work hard, but money still stresses you

I’m here to talk about:
📌Budgeting that actually works in real life
📌Financial planning for normal incomes, not theory
📌Cash flow- especially when money comes in irregularly
📌Money conversations we were never taught at home or school

No big finance language.
No judgment.
No pressure to be “perfect”.

Just honest conversations about money- the kind that help you breathe and plan better.

If money has ever confused you, stressed you, or made you feel behind- you’re in the right place.

Are you aware of what it means to be appointed as a Withholding VAT (WHVAT) Agent by Kenya Revenue Authority?

Yesterday, a business owner reached out to me in distress after receiving a demand letter from KRA for failure to deduct and remit WHVAT.

The surprising part is that they were not even aware they had been appointed as a WHVAT agent last year. According to them, when they were appointed, they wrote back by disputing the appointment by KRA.

Based on the letter below, KRA already effected the appointment in their system.

Now, when KRA appoints you as a WHVAT agent, you are legally obligated under Section 42A of the Tax Procedures Act to;

◾Deduct a percentage of VAT (commonly 2%) from payments made to VAT-registered suppliers
◾Remit the deducted tax directly to KRA ◾Issue a Withholding VAT certificate to your supplier so they can claim it as a credit.

📌Failure to comply with this obligation has serious consequences. KRA will compute the VAT that should have been withheld based on your purchases, add penalties and interest, and the liability will fall on your business, not your suppliers.

This is why proper record-keeping is so important. Without updated financial records, it becomes almost impossible to track which suppliers were VAT-registered and where deductions should have applied. When records are missing or inaccurate, disputes with KRA become costly and difficult to defend.

The lesson here is clear,
◾Businesses should never ignore KRA appointments or notices.
◾Compliance is not optional, and ignorance does not exempt you from responsibility. ◾Regularly confirming your compliance status and ensuring your books are clean, accurate, and up to date is the best defense when situations like this arise.

From my experience working with businesses on bookkeeping and compliance, I’ve seen how lack of awareness can cost companies thousands in penalties. Staying informed, proactive, and compliant is not just about avoiding fines, it is about protecting your business and giving yourself peace of mind.

📌I'm curious, how confident are you that your records and compliance practices could withstand KRA scrutiny today?

Even with perfect books, the words “KRA Audit” can make any business owner’s heart race.

Now, imagine facing that same audit with messy, incomplete records.

◾The anxiety.
◾The sleepless nights.
◾The pressure of knowing a single missing document could cost you hefty penalties.

That’s not just stressful, It’s a nightmare waiting to happen.

Many business owners know their records need attention, but they keep putting it off, until the day a demand notice lands in their inbox.

Are you ready for a KRA Audit?

Lately, I’ve noticed a trend that every business owner should pay attention to.

Kenya Revenue Authority has intensified tax audit exercises, and more businesses are receiving demand notices instructing them to provide records for review.

Last week, one of my clients received a notice requiring them to submit financial records dating back to 2021- all the way to 2024.

Now, imagine being in that position:
◾You have only a short time to gather years of financial data.
◾Your books are incomplete or disorganized.
◾You’re trying to fix gaps under the pressure of an impending audit.

That’s not just stressful, it’s risky.

📌Inaccurate or missing records could lead to penalties, fines, or even deeper investigations.

Remember, bookkeeping isn’t just about tracking income and expenses, It’s about safeguarding your business, ensuring compliance, and being ready for moments like these.

📌If your bookkeeping isn’t up to date, this is your sign to act now. When KRA comes knocking, you won’t have time to prepare, you’ll need to present.

At Romich Bookkeeping Solutions , we help businesses stay audit-ready by maintaining accurate, compliant, and organized records, so when the notice arrives, you can face it with confidence.

Don’t wait for KRA to find gaps in your books. Take control today.
