🌿 KENYA MAKES HISTORY! 🌿

Kenya has officially clinched the Guinness World Record for the ‘Most People Planting Mangrove Trees Simultaneously’! 🏆🌍

In a powerful display of environmental action, 4,196 scouts, community members, and conservationists gathered at the Jomvu Mangrove Ecosystem in Mombasa County. After strict verification, 4,124 participants met the Guinness criteria, smashing the previous record of 3,001! 💪🌱

This massive synchronized planting effort took place during the 2026 International Day for the Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystems, and it's more than just a title—it's a major step toward Kenya's goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032 and restoring our precious coastal ecosystems. 🌊🌳

A huge shoutout to the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Scouts Association, and M-PESA Foundation for spearheading this historic initiative! 🤝

This is what collective action for climate resilience looks like. Kenya is proving that community-led conservation can deliver real, lasting change for our blue economy and our planet. 🌍💚

We at 50 Treasures of Kenya Trust and the wider “Treasure Family,” are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend and former colleague Benjamin Nyambu Maghanga.

Benjamin was a true champion of community-led conservation, who believed deeply that protecting nature and empowering people go hand in hand. 🤝

We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate his incredible life and service.

Rest well, Benjamin. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten. 🕊️✨

Every day, in some of the most remote and demanding landscapes on Earth, a special group of people are showing up. 💚

They are wildlife rangers. They are conservation professionals, first responders, community members, and protectors of our planet's most precious animals.
This year, we are beyond proud to support them as they take on the 2026 Wildlife Ranger Challenge. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

From July through September, IFAW-supported teams across Africa— including the incredible Team Lioness in Kenya and rangers from Zimbabwe and Malawi—will push themselves physically and mentally. The goal? To prepare for a grueling 21-kilometre race on September 19th, celebrating their profession and building support for their livelihoods, safety, and wellbeing.

But this is more than a race. It's a testament to their teamwork, their resilience, and the shared commitment that binds rangers across the continent. It's an opportunity to put the people behind conservation at the centre of the story.

Because rangers show up every day for wildlife, this year IFAW is asking you to show up for them! 🗣️

🌊🇰🇪 Kenya takes a major step toward climate resilience and ocean conservation!
At the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa, Kenya launched its first-ever national plan dedicated to protecting and restoring blue carbon ecosystems—such as mangroves, seagrasses, and tidal marshes. These coastal habitats play a vital role in capturing carbon, safeguarding biodiversity, and supporting coastal communities.
The Blue Carbon Ecosystems Nationally Determined Contributions Implementation and Investment Plan sets clear targets through 2035, identifies implementation leaders, and outlines financing pathways to help Kenya deliver on its climate and coastal wetland conservation commitments.
This milestone reinforces Kenya’s leadership in advancing nature-based solutions for climate action and sustainable development.
