I am proud to be associated with Shabana FC, for doing the Gusii community proud, having been crowned NSL champions for the 2022/23 season.
In this regard, I today graced the Homecoming ceremony and joined the team, fans, the soccer fraternity and the community at large in celebrating the championship and elevation of our home team to the prestigious Kenya Premier League.
Since I wasn’t personally around when Shabana lifted the trophy, by defeating Kisumu All stars 2 goals to Nil, in an electrifying match witnessed by over 20,000 enthusiastic fans at the Gusii Stadium, it was indeed a great honour for me to symbolically receive the trophy.
I want to thank the team players for working hard to emerge the best in Kenya, in the National Super League. I equally thank all stakeholders and fans for the support you have given to the team, by all means.
While recognizing the role played by the fans in supporting the club, throughout the season, we today rolled out a massive online Fans registration exercise to help enhance the fan-base for Shabana FC, locally and internationally, so as to boost avenues for support, going forward.
As earlier promised, the sponsor I had sourced for Shabana FC is ready to sign for his sponsorship of 20 million shillings, as the team joins the KPL. It is my appeal for more sponsors and fans to come in and support our team to succeed in the important task ahead.
Importantly, due to challenges witnessed in this stadium during the NSL matches, such as difficulty in crowd control and flooding of the pitch, we are set to embark on further renovation of the stadium to improve conditions and meet standards.
As you are aware, it is through my intervention that the County Government of Kisii let Shabana FC use the Gusii Stadium as its home ground, after years of being kept out of the stadium and the gesture has finally borne fruits.
And as part of my agenda in upholding talent development in the county, we are set to give the Gusii.
