Meet Ainabkoi Farmers Cooperative Society—a Cohort 3 participant of the program.

Established in 1963, the Ainabkoi Farmers Cooperative Society Limited (AFCS) stands as a prominent producer organisation in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County, empowering over 2,400 smallholder farmers. With operations spanning Ainabkoi, Olare Ward, Tarakwa, and neighbouring counties like Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet, AFCS offers a wide array of services, including milk bulking, cooling, value addition, potato aggregation, financial assistance, and provision of quality farm inputs.

Driven by a commitment to sustainable agricultural growth, the society prioritises gender inclusivity, equal opportunity, and maintains a transparent, drug-free, and corruption-free environment, thereby serving as a vital catalyst for regional agricultural development.

Thanks to the support of KIEP 250+, AFCS has been able to significantly enhance its operational capacity and farmer support systems. Specifically, the development and implementation of a comprehensive farmers' training programme, including tailored curriculum and materials focusing on dairy, potato, and poultry value chains, has empowered both staff and farmers with crucial knowledge and skills.

Additionally, the digitisation of milk collection and automation of business processes, through the procurement and installation of necessary software and hardware, has streamlined operations and improved efficiency, contributing to the overall sustainable growth of the cooperative.

Having been a part of their story is something we value greatly, and we look forward to their sustained and impactful endeavours.

Lempean Global Millers (LGM), a producer of approved sifted maize meal under the SIMBA EXTRA and PALA PREMIUM brands, sought KIEP 250+'s support to enhance their operational efficiency and diversify their product portfolio.

Our initial intervention focused on the standardisation of operational processes, accompanied by comprehensive staff training. This initiative aimed to optimise workflows, improve productivity, and ensure consistent product quality, thereby strengthening LGM's core business foundation.

Following this, KIEP 250+ facilitated LGM's expansion into animal feed processing. This involved the procurement and installation of essential equipment, including mixing machines, crushers, dryers, and hammer mills. To ensure effective utilisation of this equipment, we delivered extensive training programmes. These included 30 days of instruction on machine handling and maintenance, and 15 days of training on the animal feed production process itself.

Additionally, recognising the importance of market pe*******on, our business advisors and business development partners designed and implemented targeted marketing campaigns across eight regions. These campaigns aimed to raise awareness of LGM's new animal feed products and establish a strong market presence. Complementing this, we provided expert assistance in the formulation of animal feeds, ensuring the production of high-quality, nutritionally balanced products.

Through these interventions, KIEP 250+ provided Lempean Global Millers with the necessary resources, training, and strategic support to achieve sustainable growth and diversification. This comprehensive approach has enabled LGM to enhance its operational capabilities, expand its market reach, and establish a robust presence in the animal feed sector.

We are honoured to have been part of their journey.

Meet KTL Farming Limited—a Cohort 3 participant of the program.

Operating within the fertile landscapes of Western Kenya, KTL Farming Limited is a vertically integrated avocado enterprise. They cultivate Global GAP-certified seedlings in their nursery, empowering a network of over 5,000 farmers through direct contracts and expert training. This robust farmer network allows for efficient harvesting, handling, and aggregating premium avocados, which are then marketed to local and international clients.

The KTL Farming team expanded into agri-processing, with avocado oil production pilot testing first, and then commercial production commenced, demonstrating their commitment to comprehensive avocado development and market expansion.

Being part of KIEP 250+ helped them transform their operations through a series of strategic interventions to enhance productivity, diversify their product range, and ensure compliance with stringent market standards.

Specifically, KIEP 250+ facilitated the development of new and innovative products using cold-pressed dried avocado pulp technology, addressing post-harvest losses and driving business growth. This included process re-engineering for extra virgin avocado oil production, implementing quality management systems with precision measurement tools and Redox titration, and creating comprehensive SOPs and operating manuals.

KIEP 250+ also facilitated crucial certifications, trained thousands of farmers and staff in export standards and oil production, and ultimately enhanced KTL Farming's efficiency, quality, and market competitiveness.

We are grateful to have played a role in their success, and we're optimistic about the lasting positive effects they'll create.
