Occupational health and safety (OSH) is a multidisciplinary field concerned with the safety, health, and welfare of people at work. It is a broad field that encompasses a wide range of topics, including:

Hazard identification and assessment
Risk control
Safety training and education
Ergonomics
Occupational hygiene
Occupational medicine
Workplace violence prevention
Emergency preparedness
Disaster response

The goal of OSH is to create a safe and healthy work environment for all workers. This includes protecting workers from physical hazards, such as falls, electrical shocks, and exposure to chemicals; as well as from mental hazards, such as stress and burnout.

OSH is important for a number of reasons. First, it helps to protect workers from injury and illness. Second, it can help to reduce the costs of workplace accidents and injuries. Third, it can improve productivity and morale. Fourth, it can help to protect the environment.

There are a number of things that employers can do to promote OSH in their workplaces. These include:

Implementing a comprehensive OSH program
Providing safety training and education to employees

Ensuring that workplaces are free from hazards
Providing ergonomically designed workstations
Monitoring employee health
Responding to workplace violence
Preparing for emergencies

OSH is a shared responsibility between employers and employees. Employers have a legal obligation to provide a safe and healthy work environment for their employees. Employees also have a responsibility to follow safety rules and procedures, and to report hazards to their employers.

By working together, employers and employees can create a safe and healthy work environment for everyone.

Here are some of the functions of occupational health and safety:

Identify and assess risks: The first step in any OSH program is to identify and assess the risks in the workplace. This includes identifying hazards, such as chemicals, machinery, and noise, and assessing the risks associated with these hazards.

Control risks: Once the risks have been identified and assessed, they need to be controlled. This can be done through a variety of means, such as engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.

Provide safety training: Employees need to be trained on the hazards in their workplace and how to prevent accidents and injuries. This training should be ongoing and should be tailored to the specific needs of the workplace.

Monitor employee health: Employers should monitor the health of their employees to identify any health problems that may be caused by the workplace. This can be done through regular medical examinations and health screenings.

Investigate accidents and incidents: When accidents or incidents occur, they should be investigated to determine the cause and to prevent them from happening again.

Comply with regulations: Employers must comply with all applicable OSH regulations. This includes regulations that are set by the government, as well as regulations that are set by industry associations.
OSH is an important field that is essential for protecting the safety and health of workers.

By following the principles of OSH, employers can create a safe and healthy work environment for their employees.

YOUR DAILY FIRE SAFETY TIP📌

Fuse wire is used in electric circuits to prevent the excess current flowing into the circuit and therefore preventing the appliances from getting damaged and / or catching fire.

We often replace these fuse wires with nails and hair pins when they melt in serving its purpose. This practice is unprofessional and tend to render the fuse ineffective which may cause the device to malfunction and / or increase its fire risk.

To prevent such electrically induced fires, we urge you all not to replace fuse wires with nails and hair pins which are not designed to protect the electrical devices from excessive current, damage and / or fire. Seek the help of competent and certified Electrical Engineers and Professionals to replace your fuse wires.

Adhere and remain safe.

Why is CPR Important? CPR can save lives. As a first-line response that can help save someone's life in an emergency, this technique aims to keep oxygen moving to vital organs, especially the brain, until the heart can beat on its own again.
