Korea National Ocean Carriers, HMM launches a new Far East Asia-East Latin America(FL2) service

HMM announced the launch of a new service offering a direct connection from Far East Asia to the East Coast of Latin America. The new service, known as the Far East Asia—East Latin America Service 2(FL2), will cooperate with HMM and ONE(Ocean Network Express).

An HMM official said, “With the introduction of the FL2 service, HMM will provide our customers with more efficient and reliable service, following Far East-India-Latin America(FIL) service, and we will continue to enhance our presence in the East Latin America market that has a high potential for future growth and development.”

The first voyage of the FL2 will depart from Busan new port in the first week of April and will turn around in 11 weeks(R/V 77days), with the following port rotation:
Busan – South China – Singapore – Rio Grande – Santos – Santa Catarina – Singapore – Hongkong – Busan

In addition, HMM will offer a dedicated River Plate feeder service to Argentina and Uruguay via Rio Grande with more competitive transit times.

The wage and collective agreement (wage agreement) negotiations between the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) and the National Railroad Workers' Union (Korail) were concluded a week after the general strike.

Korail and the railway union reached an agreement on the merits of the collective bargaining at 3:35 p.m. on the 11th.

South Korea strikes not currently impacting our international transportation service

Please be advised that while South Korea’s largest umbrella labor group, the Confederation of Korean Trade Unions (KCTU), has announced an indefinite nationwide strike until President Yoon resigns, we are not currently experiencing any impacts to our services or freight.
Some of KCTU’s affiliated unions involved in the transportation logistics industry, including the National Railway Union and Cargo Truckers Union, have announced strikes, as well. We, BSL are not presently experiencing any disruptions to our services due to these strikes; however, we are continuing to closely monitor the situation and will update customers as needed.

HMM held a naming ceremony for its 13,000 TEU container ship ‘HMM Ruby’ on the 19th.

‘HMM Ruby’ is the seventh container ship delivered among 12 13,000 TEU ships signed in June 2021 to strengthen eco-friendly competitiveness and diversify the fleet.

‘HMM Ruby’ will be deployed on PSX (Pacific South Express), HMM’s exclusive route to the West Coast of the United States, and will call at major domestic ports such as Busan, Gwangyang, and Incheon. HMM plans to expand its fleet by deploying new 13,000 TEU ships, including the Ruby, to this route, where existing 8,600-10,000 TEU ships were deployed.
