🔬 Supporting dengue vector surveillance in Bangladesh (Merieux Foundation)

VCC‑SEA worked with public health partners in Bangladesh to review dengue vector surveillance and assess the entomology laboratory at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

The consultancy included discussions with national and local stakeholders, a review of surveillance activities, and practical recommendations for laboratory capacity, mosquito rearing and insecticide resistance testing. We also prepared standard operating procedures and training materials for adult and larval mosquito bioassays.

Strong dengue surveillance depends on trained teams, reliable laboratory methods and field data that can inform action. We are grateful to our colleagues in Bangladesh for sharing their experience and working with us on these priorities.

🦟 Strengthening medical entomology capacity in Djibouti

Between 2024 and 2025, VCC‑SEA supported medical entomology training in Djibouti through a series of practical modules delivered with national public health teams.

The work covered mosquito identification, adult and larval insecticide resistance testing, field evaluation methods and resistance management. We also developed practical manuals and standard operating procedures to support routine vector control activities, including indoor residual spraying and larval habitat management.

Training works best when teams can apply the methods themselves, interpret the results and use them to guide decisions in the field. Thank you to our colleagues in Djibouti for their collaboration and commitment throughout the programme.
