Wishing everyone a meaningful Australia Day! 🇦🇺
Today, January 26, Australians come together to mark the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788. Across the country, communities are observing the day with a mix of ceremonies, cultural events, and reflections on its ongoing significance.
In Canberra, national commemorations began with a citizenship and flag-raising ceremony, warmly welcoming new Australians from around the world. In Sydney, the WugulOra Morning Ceremony at Barangaroo celebrated the continuous culture of the Gadigal people through traditional dance and song.
Despite challenging weather conditions in parts of the country, communities in the Northern Territory and Queensland participated in fun runs, flag raisings, and citizenship ceremonies. South Australia hosted a First Nations-led Mourning in the Morning ceremony in Adelaide, focused on reflection and truth-telling. Meanwhile, Victoria and Western Australia held official events and community celebrations, including ceremonies welcoming new citizens.
January 26 continues to be observed in diverse ways, reflecting both national celebration and ongoing conversations around history, recognition, and unity.
