I’m pleased to share the completion of my research thesis for the Master of Business Management in Marketing at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka.

📘 **Research Title:**
*Exploring the Role of Digital Literacy in Shaping Gig Economy Participation among Rural Freelancers on Uber and PickMe Platforms in Sri Lanka*

This study explores how digital literacy, platform algorithms, infrastructure limitations, and socio-cultural factors influence the participation of rural freelancers in Sri Lanka’s growing gig economy.

Key insights from the research include:
🔹 Digital literacy is a critical determinant of platform participation and income sustainability
🔹 Rural freelancers face “double precarity” through both algorithmic dependence and structural disadvantage
🔹 Platform systems remain largely urban-centric, creating barriers for rural workers
🔹 Inclusive platform design, localized training, and stronger digital policies are essential for equitable participation

This research contributes to discussions on:
✔ Digital Divide & Digital Inequality
✔ Platform Labour & Algorithmic Management
✔ Rural Digital Transformation in the Global South
