WHEN DOES THE NEW YEAR START?

A colleaque asked me this question, and I thought my response to her could be a help to others in here:

When we started, we too were using the March Equinox as the 1st day of the Year. However, when we progressed into studying, we realised that we were wrong. There are two terms in Physics that I would like to use to explain this. That is the Point of Convergence, the time or point at which the Earth completes its circle or revolution around the Sun, and the point of divergence, the time and point at which the Earth initiates a new journey or revolution around the Sun. Geometrically, the March equinox is a point of convergence; that is, the Earth is completing its journey or revolution or circle around the Sun. That is why the Sun is directly over the equator on that day. The last day of the Earth's revolution can not be the 1st day of the New Year; it should be the last day of the year. The next day, after the vernal equinox, is the point of divergence; that is, the Earth is initiating a new journey, or circle, or revolution. That is the first day of the New Year. More to this, Butch also found evidence in the Dead Sea Scrolls supporting this. That is how we have to change.
