The tradition of leaving cookies for Santa Claus did not start as a cute holiday aesthetic. It comes from a mix of survival culture gratitude rituals and early European folklore where generosity was believed to bring protection and favor. Long before malls and movies people believed winter spirits and gift bringers watched how households behaved during the harshest season of the year.
Leaving food out was a sign of respect not entitlement.

The modern Santa traces back to Saint Nicholas a wealthy bishop known for secretly giving food money and gifts to struggling families. Over time his story traveled through Europe blending with Dutch traditions where children left food and treats for Sinterklaas horse believing kindness would be rewarded. When this reached America the offering shifted from hay and bread to milk and cookies reflecting what households had on hand.

During the Great Depression this ritual became a teaching tool. Parents used cookies for Santa to teach gratitude generosity and discipline. The message was simple even when times are hard you still give. Santa only comes to homes that show appreciation. That idea stuck and marketing later amplified it but the foundation was already there.

Today leaving cookies is less about Santa and more about values. It is a quiet lesson that generosity opens doors that gratitude keeps traditions alive and that giving something small can still invite something magical.

At a recent art fair, Snoop Dogg went viral after playfully calling out the modern art world by taping a blunt to a gallery wall and presenting it as a serious exhibit. The moment instantly drew crowds, cameras, and laughter, with Snoop clearly treating it like a joke while highlighting how far conceptual art has stretched public belief.

What made the moment hit harder is that history says he is not wrong. In recent years, everyday objects displayed with confidence and context have sold for millions, simply because a gallery declared them art. Snoop’s stunt tapped into that reality perfectly, exposing how perception, branding, and hype often matter more than craftsmanship.

The crowd reaction said everything. People filmed, smiled, and leaned in as if witnessing a legitimate installation. That response alone proved the point.
Once something is framed as art in the right room, value becomes a social agreement rather than a logical one.

While Snoop laughed it off, many online pointed out that if the piece stayed up long enough, someone absolutely would try to buy it. In today’s art economy, irony sells, commentary sells, and sometimes the joke becomes the masterpiece.
