LNP Suspends Officer Without Pay for Sleeping in Uniform While on Duty

MONROVIA, Liberia β September 9, 2026 β The Liberia National Police has suspended a Police Support Unit officer for two months without pay after he was found allegedly sleeping in uniform while on duty inside a parked yellow tricycle along a city street.
Sergeant Eriah G. Gbainyee was suspended following an investigation into what the police described as an ethical breach.
According to an official communication dated September 7, the suspension took effect on August 4, 2026, under the LNPβs Administrative Instructions on Discipline and Professional Standards.
During the suspension, Sergeant Gbainyee is required to surrender all government-issued property, including his uniform, badge and identification card. He is also prohibited from identifying himself as an LNP officer during the suspension period.
Meanwhile, the LNP has lifted the suspensions of eight other officers who had previously faced disciplinary action for unethical conduct.
The reinstated officers are Patrolmen Murphyson K. Entsua, Musa S. Kamara, Marcus T. Tengbeh, Marian B. Cole, Alexander C. Weah and Solomon D. Chea Jr.; Superintendent Momodu S. Sanyon; and Sergeant Jeremiah C. Kerdoe.
The Police Administration has warned officers against similar conduct, saying repeat violations could lead to more severe administrative sanctions.
The LNP says it remains committed to professionalism, discipline, accountability and maintaining high standards of conduct among its personnel.
