Allegations Surface Over 2023 Campaign Financing and Drug Trade Claims

Monrovia – Allegations have resurfaced linking individuals accused of drug-related activities to the financing of Liberia’s 2023 presidential election campaign.

Critics claim that Joe Kpoto, described by accusers as a major figure in the drug trade, provided financial support to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. and the Unity Party during the 2023 elections. The allegations further state that Kpoto is currently imprisoned in Japan for alleged transnational crimes.

The claims also accuse the Boakai administration of involvement in illicit drug activities and allege that support for the August 7, 2025 anti-drug protest was intended to divert public attention from those accusations.

No evidence has been publicly presented in this statement to substantiate the allegations, and the Liberian government has consistently denied involvement in illegal drug activities.

Youth Minister Unveils Plan to Promote Peace Through Youth Empowerment

MONROVIA, Liberia – Minister of Youth and Sports, Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, has announced plans to engage young people and international partners on sustaining peace through youth empowerment, employment, and economic opportunities.

Kruah said the engagement will serve as a platform to build new partnerships and advance the ministry’s youth empowerment initiative, “Rooting and Rising Liberia’s Youth.”

The event is expected to bring together more than 100 international stakeholders, including United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Dr. Felipe Paullier. A diverse delegation of Liberian youth, athletes, artists, and disability advocates will also participate in the discussions.

Fire Service urges responsible reporting as hundreds are affected nationwide.

MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) has disclosed that fire outbreaks recorded between January and May caused millions of dollars in property losses, affected hundreds of residents, and resulted in multiple fatalities across the country.

Speaking in Monrovia, LNFS Director Warsuwah Barvoul Sr. said the incidents destroyed homes and displaced families, with children, women, and men among those affected. He also warned that false fire alarms continue to strain the agency’s resources and called on the public to report fire emergencies responsibly.

The Fire Service urged citizens and the media to verify information before sharing reports, emphasizing that timely and accurate reporting can help save lives and property.

MONROVIA – Gender Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie has called on unemployed married men to report working spouses who refuse to support their families.
